View Full Version : Can't Add Avatar -- What Am I Doing Wrong?

Okay, searched all the FAQs, went through all the profile options, and searched the messages here. Can't figure out why the page "Edit Avatar" insists keeping the box "Do not use an avatar" checked for me, no matter how persistently I click on it or click "Reset Fields." I assume as long as that is checked, I will not see any controls for uploading an avatar, but I can't uncheck it!

Also, it seems you set the preferences to automatically log in at the time you set up a profile, but where do you go to change this later? And is there any way this can be computer-specific? I log on sometimes on a shared computer, and sometimes at home, so I'd rather not have other users on the shared computer be able to log on as me, but would like to keep the convenience of logging on automatically at home.

Is that asking too much?

hi denny,

i've double-checked your avatar settings.. all seem fine from the back-end. and, i see that you have an avatar uploaded. what is not working for you?

re: the logging in thing.. when you log in, there is a check box to the right of "username" called "remember me". if that is checked, you will automatically be logged in when you come back. what that does is set a cookie on the machine that you are on.. so, it is, in a sense, computer specific. if you are being auto-logged in, and you don't want to be, simply log out, then re-log in, but be sure to uncheck that box before you log in.

you'll need to set that log-in option on each computer that you use and want to set on or off.

Okay-dokey on the login thing; that's clear enough.

But if I have an avatar uploaded, I'm unaware of it. It certainly doesn't appear on my posts, though others do (yes, I've turned on the "show avatars" switch). What I did succeed in uploading was a profile picture, but that seems to be different. It displays on my profile, but not my posts.

How do I upload an avatar for my posts, or get the profile picture to be used as that avatar?

click on User CP in the upper left. then, on the left hand side, you will see links. in the first section, there is a link to "Edit Avatar" (it's right above the link to "Edit Profile Picture").

there you can choose whether to use an avatar, and you can either point to one on the web somewhere, or upload an image.

the same functionality holds for your profile picture.

the image i saw in your file must have been your profile picture.

Okay, we're back where we began. As I explained in the first message, I've tried all that. Nothing I do will uncheck the box "Do Not Use Avatar." Clicking on it, or clicking reset all fields, has no effect. I assume that's why I see nothing about how to actually upload an avatar.

Why would that be?

Same issue here.

Edit avatar only gives the option NOT to use an avatar. There is no box for uploading an avatar.

ok... finally found it.. an obscure little setting that was not set correctly (because i imported all settings from the old discussion board software).

now you should be able to add a custom avatar. :)
