I was just checking someone's "reputation" history and discovered a fake name had been giving out reputation points. Then I dug around a little more and low and behold a different poster has been using fake names to post to reputation.

All I can say is I am very dissapointed that you find the need to behave in such a manner.

Here's what's going to happen:

I am giving you 24 hours to come clean. Here, on this thread admit what you have done.

If you fail to do so I will hunt down every fake reputation you have given through your phony proxies and ban you one day for each one AND out you on this thread. Either way your behavior will become public.

i admit that i rarely used it until recently when i happened to notice that a certain group of 'cliquish dicks' seemed to be getting what could only be called "mad rep" and i reckoned it was a little kaffe klatsch

THEN i noted that a certain OTHER group (who i myself often view also as invididuals as 'retrograde') ALSO had been receiving correspondingly negative rep

after that i sort of made it a matter of principle to spread a little "love" to the red-dot crowd (when appropriate)

There are also a few principled posters who are not willing to compromise merely in order to be popular. The first one that comes to mind is Neuro. He doesn't play any fancy games and he gives you his opinion straight. And I'm not currying favor here; he's told me I'm full of it - and worse - quite often. Fuck it, you know where he stands on issues. I know Macman most certainly does not post shit to boost his popularity. Almost all his posts are as unPC as it gets - so he therefore gets jumped on by the 99% of the PC'ers here on this board. But he doesn't back down.

I've never given or taken from someone's "reputation" on this board, as the only real reason to do so would be to attempt to harm that person for disagreeing with you or to boost that person for agreeing with you. It's pretty stupid. Fuck it; I'm proud of that stupid red dot by my name! It means I ain't fucking kissing anyone's ass!

And people here complain about politicians! Fuckers do the same kind of glad-handing and back slapping here as the pols do when they're out trying to get votes. Why don't we have better politicians? Cuz the fucking public, of which this board constitutes a small and at least semi-representative portion, is just as bad.

I accendentally stumbled over the reputation roll while looking for something else a few months ago. It's not easy to find, but it lists all the people who have left reputation for a poster. The odd part is that it doesn't list whether the rep they left was positive or negative - but it's pretty easy to figure out.

What I can tell you as one of the few triple greenies out here ;) I have NEVER asked for reputation and would never give someone who asked it from me. And for the record - no one has ever asked.

You would be surprised how many people do leave reputation - it is not who you think.

Personally I leave reputation points for really great posts that are articulate or clever; or really ugly/stupid ones.

The system does force a user to spread the rep around so you can not pile up on someone - unless you just give tons and tons of rep, then you can hit your rival poster more often - but that seems like a lot of effort for something so silly.

Okay, I don't give a crap about rep but some of you do and Karen asked me to look at what the mods can see and what they can do when using our "moderator control panel."

The mods can see when rep was given and by whom. They can edit the accompanying comment from the user. That's it. They can't change rep points, they can't add or subtract them, can't delete them, they can't do anything to their own reputation.

Actually Mike was banned for this. Technically he cannot be banned as he has mod privileges, but he finally realized that the gig was up and banned himself.

My rep points are now a lost cause. A month or two ago, don't remember, I went from being "on a distinguished road" to "can only hope to improve."

I am not positive about it, but it seems like I received at least 25 negative points within a day. I now stand at -38 points.

It made me upset at first, but I go along with others now that it is a badge of honour.

As regards to Kuni, that was quite the threat made, and quite the asshole way of making it.. There's no need to be a total asswipe like that. Sometimes we can fuck up and let our emotions get the better of us, but to make threats like that, to me, he should get his arse thrown the fuck out of here for good.

Forums cannot maintain credibility if there are multiple user id's. I hope that people with proxies are not allowed to register. I also think that there could be some who have access to multiple numbers of comps, so they may be able to mask their troll activities by having different ip's for their various sock puppets. But then perhaps if there is strange activity going on, maybe the ip's can be checked for location also. Then any multiple id person with different ip's can still be busted.

One thing I do like about DBS is it seems that nothing gets scrubbed and deleted. That is a problem at many a forum.

And one last thing, it is not paranoia to believe that there are tax-payer funded posters at this forum and all across the internet. These types of fakes are referred to as astroturfers. Some times they are out to sell products, other times they are marketers of ideas, agents attempting social engineering.

Actually you have helped me get those three little green dots so I suppose I should thank you. Quite a few people have been given me positive rep for standing up to you so very many times this year. Thanks.

I did think it was possible to correct reputation. The software says "Edit reputation" deep inside the control panel and I had planned to fix the rep of someone who thought a bunch a people had ganged up on them. First I investigated and found there was no gang up and second I discovered that I couldn't change it even if I wanted to. Only Administrators can correct reputation.

Given the amount of time she spends on her computer managing this site, it's hard to see how she would be unable to work at her chosen profession, even with her disabilities.

That being said, I have no problem with a normal US citizen getting whatever they can from the US govt. - banks, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and contractors like the infamous Bechtel screw the taxpayers for billions.

I don't have a problem with A Voice lining up at the trough with the rest of them...at least she's not screwing seniors on drug prices or bombing civilians or overcharging for weapons systems that don't work.

Do me a favor, because I need you to get a taste of what I go through on a daily basis. Throw yourself down a flight of stairs - five times. Ever heard of pain management?

I have had three knee operations on my left knee due to osteosarcoma so it continuously aches. I have sciatica nerve problems due to wearing a gunbelt putting pressure on it and it continuously hurts all day. Lower back problems, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, diverticulosis.

I know about pain and I don't pop pills unless its excruciating. I don't want to get dependent on chemical means for my relief. And I don't mean physically dependent. Some days are better than others.

I still go horseback riding, flying, pretty much whatever I want. Especially the flying part because if I am medicated, my medical certificate for flying could be invalidated depending on what I am taking.

I believe its in how you approach it and I am determined not to let it get me down.

At this moment, my colitis is flaring and my knee is aching fiercely since its almost blizzard conditions where I live. And I ignore it. I try to keep busy with projects and shove my pain away. Sounds weird but thats how I handle it.

Me thinks A Voice protests a little too much for someone who is supposedly disabled.Wow. That's same stupid logic my mother used to use years ago when she'd insist I'd go to school even though I didn't feel well. "If you really didn't feel well you'd be unconscious and wouldn't tell me your not well enough to go to school." She almost always had to pick me up a few hours later, by the time I was in Jr. High she figured out that logic didn't work.

Just because A Voice is conscious doesn't mean she's able to work.

And I know more than 1 person in the same situation in the real world. Their are plenty of people who could work a part time job even though their disabled, but then they'd lose their state medical coverage and then wouldn't be able to work at all (not to mention the pain & suffering and/or permanent harm they would cause themselves in the process). A Voice is probably in that same situation.

It is pretty obvious that you depend on your parents and I truly wonder if you have moved out of your house. When a Voice can spend so much time on line and so much time in doing tedious work, she can at least do computer input.
