Let's Start Banning People for Spamming Threads

Spamming threads distracts board members trying to discuss real issues, and makes maintaining an intelligent discussion difficult. Sure, there is an ignore function, but when people continue spamming threads they tend to stop any intelligent discussion that may have been going on, and lower the level of discussion for everyone.

I propose we define thread spamming as any of the following...
1)Posting the exact same message several times, or posting a message with little or no variation from a previously posted message on the same thread.
2)Repeated use of excessively large type in all or a majority of posts, making posts with a few words so large they take up most of the viewing area other members computers.
3)Repeatedly posting messages that have no relevance to the conversation what so ever.

If the person can explain the relevance when asked, it would be considered relevant. I'm talking about someone who goes onto a thread just to insult someone else on it, who posts complete nonsense, and/or who doesn't attempt to relate the post to the rest of the thread. I used the word repeatedly in number 3, because I can see how some legitimate posts are questionably related to a thread. This would only be a bannable offense if most of a what a poster puts up cannot be logically related to the topic being discussed.

If it's my thread, I figure it's run its course and move on.

If it started after the thread had been up for a while it wouldn't bother me as much. Every time a start a thread it get spammed before any interesting conversation starts, and it's not just my threads either.

If we do start banning people for thread spamming it should be a 3 strikes your out for repeat posts (in a month say), and if we use the other 2 criteria, it should be only after someone has put up more than 10 offensive posts in a month.

Bubba got banned for spamming the forum, which is basically flooding, or starting too many topics and/or bumping all your own topics. This is the only spam rule I'm aware of.

Contumacious knows better than to do that, so I doubt he'll ever be permanently banned.

I would say he's far worse than a stupid, obnoxious bastard; I would call him a child-molesting fucking freak, and note that I don't make such a charge lightly.

Chat spam

There are about four or five people from "each side" (accounting for gray areas, too) here that are worth having discourse with.

Expecting anything meaningful from the others is a waste of time.

I'm pretty liberal but am on good terms with a lot of conservatives here because I treat them like human beings and with the knowledge that they love this country just like me and want her people to be strong and prosperous just like me - and that we have disagreements over how to get from her to ther, which is only natural.
