I have finally had to make the difficult decision to ban Bubba2 permanently. We've bargained, reasoned and begged long enough. He still continues to spam the forum then bump his own threads - often two or more times.
I am sure many will find this controversial, but I've made up my mind. Feel free to appeal to Madresfield or Lib. I am done with this spamming attention hog.
Last time I banned him for the same offense - spamming the board - I told him that he was getting no more chances.

Why not make it a month? Unless someone tries to destroy the board by going to the owners I personally think one should follow the principle of progressivity. I believe Bubblebrain's longest ban so far has been one week or am I mistaken? One month, two months, ..... progressively upward would seem a better way to go.
I think permanent banning is kind of extreme for spamming.

Whoa, I see plenty more junk from certain other posters. Why can't adults just avoid Bubba's posts if they don't want to mess with them? Doc posts just to see himself in print. Sometimes he is funny, sometimes boring - just like a lot of other posters. Yet you want to ban Bubba for life? Goodbye freedom of speech.
Mr. Orwell, are you listening?

These points have been explicitly covered.
Let me point out something you said recently;
I am open to learning. (And everybody on this board has misinterpreted my user name from the beginning, but since they become mangled and the target of insults, I decided there was no sense in correcting everyone.) My interests are varied. I spend almost all my spare time reading books on diverse subjects. I haven't claimed to be smarter than everyone else. Most of what appears under my name on these boards is the product of my own brain. I am not a master of cut-and-paste. What you see, generally, is free-form, extemporaneous composition. It certainly is not polished or edited. Nevertheless, I manage to adhere to basic orthography. And if I am so woefully ignorant as you claim, it is not for lack of trying or laziness. Nor is it a result of failing to uncritically accept the ex cathedra pronouncements of soi-disant experts.
This, among other things, is why your posts have value. They come from you.
The practice of cutting and pasting up to a dozen threads (or more) on a daily basis buries threads with otherwise painstaking, valuable, and otherwise unique points of view. Bubba2 had one theme that he replayed constantly with C+P expertise. Sometimes it was "The Joos did 9/11" or "The Joos are making us Gay", or even "The Joos put Booberry cereal out of production".
Who knows, maybe he's right. Unfortunately, posting threads with the same central theme at 10 to 100 times the rate of posters who spend time crafting thoughtful posts, or really want to have an earnest discussion over a subject, is basically selfish.
I barely start three threads in a week, let alone in a day. I don't know what Bubba's actual rate of new posts and bumping old threads was, but it was high enough to bury the work and thoughts of many others under the same, repetitive message.
That's spamming.
I somewhat agree with Dingo that permanent is harsh, but he's been asked politely, asked not so politely, asked sternly, and told to stop it, then temporarily banned on more than one board by more moderators than A Voice... and he never even made the attempt to cut the shit.
So I really can't blame A Voice.

If she's going to ban Bubba for spam, she needs to ban jeff reynolds for spam.. Or are there different standards for different people??...
He spammed fifteen threads in the science forum with the same old youtube BS he has spammed before. If that isn't spam I'm not sure what is!!!.............

Because it won't make any difference. He's been banned by all the moderators and he doesn't change. Or he lays low and slowly loses his grip.
We've asked him in every way imaginable to stop and he doesn't. A month will not change him.

Our guidelines are under three an hour or six a day.
In the past two days bubba has started 12 threads, a few had responses, the rest he bumped with with his usual manner, buy posting this icon  and nothing else.
At the moment I banned him there were eleven Bubba threads on the first page of Current Events.

You haven't had to deal with him, I have, so you may not be aware of all the nonsense he has visited on the board.
Here are the rules, I'll bold the ones Bubba has broken at least once in the past eleven months.
1.Threatening or wishing harm against other posters or their families, insulting or defaming a poster's family members or referring to them unacceptably to the poster, or threatening or plotting against public figures, are not permitted.
2. Revealing information about a poster they have not posted themselves in the current DBS forum is not permitted.
3. Threads whose main purpose is to attack another poster are not permitted. This includes polls whose intent is an attack.
4. Sexually explicit material is not acceptable and will be removed.
5. Individuals may not use multiple log-ins, that is, the same person may not post using more than one name. However, when suspended, a poster may use a second log-in for the sole purpose of communicating with the moderators if they desire.
6. This forum exists as our Hosts support it. Abusing the Hosts, who have little to do with the actual running of the Board, will not be tolerated. Threatening to or going to the Hosts or threatening or attempting to shut down the forum or make it unusable will result in permanent banning.
7. Obscene language is not permitted in thread titles. Though good taste and restraint are strongly recommended in your posting, the content of individual posts is limited only by the rules presented in this thread.
8. Spam (unsolicited advertising) will be removed and spammers banned. Posters are advised to be courteous to others in not starting more than about three threads in an hour or about six a day.
9. Threads must be started in the appropriate forum. Where a forum exists for a specific topic it takes precedence over a more general consideration such as its being a current event.
10. Moderators on DBS are also regular posters and enjoy the same freedom and responsibilities in their posting as any other forum member.
When a poster disagrees with a moderator's actions as a moderator they may present their complaint via PMs to the other moderators for consideration and the independent moderators will decide the best course of action. Complainants may not air their issue publicly.
11. It is impossible to anticipate every grievously disruptive or unacceptable action or statement a poster may make. In such rare cases the moderators may take appropriate action.
Attempting to skirt the rules by any means, for example, not specifically naming the target of an attack thread or threat are not acceptable and moderators will use their best judgment in identifying such attempts.
In all cases the moderators will be the sole judges whether there has been an infraction of the rules and what action to take. They are pledged to their best efforts at impartiality and will attempt as much consistency in their judgments and actions as they are able. Though a word of explanation may be given, they will not defend or debate their decisions.
The actions they take may range from editing or deleting a post; locking or deleting a thread, or moving it; or temporarily or permamently preventing logins, all at their sole discretion. The moderators may or may not give notice in PMs or in threads of any of their actions.
The moderators have access to IP addresses and sometimes are told private information by a poster about themself. They will not share such information with anyone other than another moderator or the owners/administrators of the board. Your privacy is a sacred trust no matter who you are or who the moderator is.

Yes, but he won't be screwing up for that month. Then if he comes back and pulls the same stunt ban him for two months. Eventually either he will get the message or not come back. I think permanent banning for spamming is using the death penalty for larceny. It is simply too harsh for the behavior and temporary banning basically solves 95% of the problem anyway because the perpetrator isn't around for long stretches.
I respect your perspective and your thoughtful efforts to keep this board running in a civilized way. I just don't agree in this case.

Fuck Bubba. He's a fucking Jew-hating bigoted loser, and has never contributed to any discussion on any board. He either posts stupid shit he cuts and pastes from Rense.com, or he uses a large font to call people "faggot" "Hymie" or "fuckwit."
How is that contributing to a discussion?
He's an insane loser, and worse, BORING.
He is a waste of bandwidth.
I would've banned him permanently years ago.
Maybe he can use his time more wisely now. Maybe he can go see a fucking psychiatrist.

I appreciate your opinion, I always have. I didn't do it for the spamming per se it's the never-ending behavior: spamming, obscenity in titles, threats, purposely misplaced threads, etc. He's a brat who, despite many interventions and chances, simply refuses to grow up. Most of the rules we have here are because of Bubba's behavior over the years.
Yesterday, I hit the wall. I realized how many hours of my life I have spent trying to deal, placate, discipline, argue, and reason with one poster. All the while getting incredible levels of abuse in return.
If the other mods decide to reinstate him, he will be theirs to deal with. I am finished with his nonsense.

Bubba is wearing out his welcome in a lot of places as of late. He's on a hefty restriction at Hypercrites for flooding that board as well.
That dude is an insufferable prick for any board that attempts to hold a discussion. I can imagine how annoying it is for people who choose not to go the C&P route to start threads.
That dude was given two years here to cut the shit and chose not to. He made choices for his own behavior and there's no way he didn't see this coming.
What else are the mods supposed to do in this scenerio?

Well I don't think being an insufferable, bigoted, insulting, spamming, won't-play-by-the-rules dude should be enough to get you thrown off a forum permanently. :D Permanent banning should be reserved for those who are doing stuff to get the board shut down. But I'm not a moderator and I don't see a lot of folks lining up to take the job, so I have to respect A Voice's feeling that she had reached her limit.
Still I am not happy with the precedent. An open forum is an opportunity to interact with a full range of folks we wouldn't have anything to do with in our normal life. We've just set a limit on that where there was no threat to the board. And the alternative of progressively greater time outs seems to be such a workable option short of complete banning.
A Voice, I hope the next time another insufferable gets under your skin and plays fast and loose with the rules you will not be quite so tolerant for so long and begin an earlier process of say 1 day, 2 days, 4 days ............ 6 months and save yourself a lot unnecessary grief and at the same time, hopefully, avoid the continuation of this unhappy precedent of permanent banning for something that was no threat to this board. I know I made such a suggestion for progressively greater time outs early in the past discussion of forum rules along with a number of other suggestions, such as new forum sections where topic postings would be voluntary rather than required to avoid the I/P problem. Maybe we need to formalize things with a new set of rules.

I apologize for not addressing this before - it slipped my mind. Bubba has been receiving increasing longer bans each time and has been warned by me that if he didn't shape up he'd be gone for good.
The problem of course is when we given longer offenses to our problem posters they claim it's just playing favorites. <sigh>
