View Full Version : It's rude to send PMs and refuse any responses.

This is about you Mike.
It is not an 'attack thread' as you most certainly will attempt to label it, it is a 'reasonable response' to your rude practice of PM'ing people without allowing them to PM you back.
I've posted the body of the message here. (http://www.debatebothsides.com/showthread.php?p=821948#post821948)
Anyone can now go and read what should have been a private message to you.
Now cut the shit.
It's funny how you are really in my top favorite posters here, yet many of the couple others who I respect don't seem to get along with you.
Mike was one of the few who at least called out Lib's bullshit in adding A Voice as a moderator, and A Voice's pathetic insecurity and personal-vindictiveness moderating "style." I can't shed my respect for him in that regard, even though I like your posting and philosophy many times more. :D

How funny.
I originally had a good deal of respect for Mike. Unfortunately, armed only with derision rather than facts or reason, he chose to confront me on a topic I'm well acquainted with.
Such behavoir bothers me when it comes from someone I want to respect.
I have no respect, and I mean *zero*, for someone who knows little about a subject and then tries to tell someone who's invested hundreds if not thousands of hours in studying that issue that they're wrong. And to do such a thing without addressing the preponderance of facts is just plain stupid.
Imagine some high school kid with no legal training trying to tell you that your theory or argument is flawed without even citing precedent or case law.
You'd just laugh...
Now imagine that instead of answering your questions or bringing facts they just resort to derision.
I think our difference in perspective boils down to what we value here.
I value the research exercises, the information, and the 'debate'... if you could call it that.
As a high-school and collegiate debator, I never lost. Not one debate. Ever. I argued the con in abortion, the pro in gun control... and a dozen or so other positions I completely disagreed with. And won. (yes, I could give GR, Lib, Felicity, madresfield and the lot some razor-sharp arguments for their pet issues... if they paid me.)
I'm pretty much done with the 'debate to win' shit. So I just want to reinforce or re-develop what opinions I hold. You're never to old to get a better perspective. I've even learned that some of my previous opinions were flawed... and I fixed them. I want to know that I know what I'm talking about when I talk about it. These places (including the bottom of the barrel) are good for tossing opinions in the crucible and getting things of value out of others.
I believe you value the dynamic more than the 'debate' itself.
This makes me think you plan on litigating. It would be a waste if you didn't.
In studying 'the dynamic', you value the various approaches to an argument rather than or as much as the argument itself. That's the only explanation I can figure out for why you think Tayken isn't a complete and total idiot. (JFTR- I get it too.)
Nonetheless, I see fairly well what it is about A Voice and Lib you see as detrimental to the process you value, while to me they hardly interfere with the venue I pursue. (Oh, and I think Voice actually has a crush on you :D)
Here at DBS, we get to paint outside the lines... and I do more of that than I ever did anywhere else before I found this place. Somehow I think that's obvious.
And it really makes a master-debator like I once was Laaaay-zeeee.
Even Denny, who I believe to be of very high intelligence and quite thoughtful, ran out of a thread (http://debatebothsides.com/showthread.php?p=745919#post745919)where I made some fair points. But at least he didn't resort to derision.
That disqualifies him from my 'dream debate team' that would include you and Kuni the factmonster.
Hell, I miss real debate so much, let me know if you have a good one coming up and I'll get some good shit for you. (I don't have Lexis right now though)
But that's pretty much my take, I don't value the same things you do when it comes to these boards. Therefore I find certain approaches illogical, irrational, or unreasonable.
How close is that?

You see dickhead, what he wrote elicited a response. He purposely shut down his ability to receive any response so that he can goad.
That's an asshole thing to do, so I pointed it out.
Would you let someone get away with being an asshole?
And for how long?

yup..this is webville...assholes are a dime a dozen and since no one has to communicate face-to-face a lot more shit happens then would even go on in REAL LIFE.
I do not take anything personal on these boards.
Do you really think you can "win" by responding back? It is easier to forgetaboutit.

I respect you a lot too, Hunter, but like many firmly convinced of the rightness of their positions, on the thread in question you really did not offer any meaningful rebuttal of my argument, but simply repeated what you'd said before and which I thought I'd already amply refuted. It's not my habit to keep repeating the same points in a thread. If I've refuted a position and the poster comes back with the same points, I usually don't reply because it's repetetive and pointless.
I didn't "run out" of the thread. You ran out of ideas.

LOL... so says you.
You never addressed the point I made directly. You called it 'apples and oranges' and 'stupid' and left. Tossing a label isn't an address... umm, unless it's an address label that is.
You either agree with my premise or you have a reason not to. "Stupid" is not a reason. I made key distinctions between the various parallels you attempted to draw and you didn't address those either.
Oh well, even people I like dissappoint me once in a while.

No, it's not a matter of 'winning', it's exposing an asshole tactic for all to see. That way others can have a more accurate idea of just who this idiot is and what he does.
I agree with you that it's not that big of a deal. The rep thing was important to him so he took a swipe through a PM. I exposed him as an ass because if you haven't noticed still has moderator privileges and uses them to attack.
Go read the abuse response and you can see what a childish response he had to what was a fairly thoughtful message to him.
Consider it a heads-up for anyone who might want to be aware of his tactics before engaging him.

Hunter, I agree with Kola.
There are twits on this board who enjoy pushing people's buttons for the reaction, not because they actually have an opinion or lean strongly in any direction.
I make the assumption you have or have been in the position to do some child rearing, you would therefore know that one does not reward bad behavior. By posting these two threads I fear you have rewarded the bad behavior.
Of course you most likely made a common mistake, believing you were dealing with a mature adult who actually desires answers/theories/discussion.

I think you're both right, but I believe there is value in bringing the 'bad behavior' to light.

really mod privileges sounds like abuse to me, the owners should strip him and ban him for a while for bull like this.
Perhaps we should run a poll?
Should we ban the dick?
1. Yes
2. Definitely

I'm a coffee shop girl, I'm used to be having these debates face-to-face with strangers. Yes, the dynamic is different, but not as different as you'd like to think. The biggest differences are that you're aware of the other persons feelings while you're talking, & the stakes are higher, it's all to easy to get into a physical fight if you make the debate emotional enough; no one online can physically hurt you when someone in the real world can. Trust me, assholes & idiots are a dime a dozen in the real world to. It's all the more important not to take political debates personally in the real world.
One of the most important skills I've learned is that sometimes you just have to walk away. You're not going to convince some ass-hole-retard of anything logical, and getting upset with them, or telling them what you really think of them won't get you anywhere either; if anything you'll just end up embarrassing you're self and making an enemy. Another thing I've learned is to figure out what buttons to push with whom (you can often tell this by peoples appearance or details they give you about themselves), and how to time using them so they don't backfire. Push the wrong button, or play a card to early, and it'll blow up in your face every time, use it judiciously and you can change someone's mind. You can't do that online, at least not overtly;); even if you use it properly the next person won't, and it backfires, but then again nothing really can blow up on your face online, so it doesn't matter 1/2 as much. I have to admit, a couple people here (Bubba), could really use a cup of hot coffee tossed in their face, and they might shut up or get lost for a while. Yes, I can explain exactly why I feel that way logically, (to a rational person, of course), but I refuse to dignify that level of stupidity & bigotry with a response (other than soaking the $%@*!% in hot coffee). I don't run into people that stupid often, as where I live skin-heads can get arrested for walking down the street.

I live in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the city (not that means much in Pittsburgh), which also happens to be predominately Jewish. The police see neo-nazi's, they assume their up to trouble, and usually do something about them before it happens. They tend to avoid the area anyway, as everyone in the city knows this. If shit didn't happen occasionally, this wouldn't be true, but it does, and 90% of the time the police are right anyway. The funniest part is I have a bunch of punk-hippy friends (using that word causally), who hide in the bushes & smoke pot all night. The cops know & don't give a damn. I guess they figure so long those kids are one's hiding in the bushes no else will, and they wouldn't hurt a fly, but they would hurt a neo-nazi if they found one. The cops don't mind that either, saves them the trouble.

Why no cursing this time? Yes, there are astroturfers and useful idiots on every board. Sometimes with people like yourself, it is hard to tell which category you fit into.
There was a thread on climate change. Chemtrails came into the discussion. I linked to concrete proof that chemtrails are real. Not one of you touched it. That's not fair debate. That's how astroturfers and useful idiots operate. You foul-mouthed bitch.

If I wanted to abuse privileges, you'd be the first target. I haven't. In point of fact, when the "privileges" again appeared in my name, I notified Lib about the problem immediately.
If you look up to the right on posts of mine, you'll see the icon for ICQ. Its been there for a very long time -- in fact years. That's my chosen way of allowing others to communicate privately with me. If that rapier-like intelligence of yours wanted to send a PM to me, you'd do it rather than all this tripe.
All of this blather from you is just that...blather. Now, traipse off and give some folks a little negative reputation, why not?

I read information, and make informed decisions when I can, and proclaim myself an expert in exactly NOTHING.
And I doubt every single thing I read.
