"Was F&B EVER held accountable for sending another poster the name, address, SS#, phone number, name of girlfriend, and even a picture of the person in question?"

With all this talk of who gets banned for how long and why, the mods have NEVER seeen fit to answer this one simple question...and yet I get bitched at for asking it over and over again when I get no reply.

Was he EVER held accointable?

Was he ever punished?

If he was - great. But please stop ignoring a completely legitimate question about the misbehavior of a poster here about an incident that YOU KNOW happened.

If he wasn't, I think we ALL deserve to know why.

Why you've never answered is a mystery to me.

Fair and Balanced Who Cares retired that moniker and changed to another while informing the Moderators of the change. This is not in violation of any rule.

That is not the accusation. This information was never displayed on the public forum to my knowledge but was contained in a pm.

Here is all I know about this case which happened before I became a Moderator so there is only so much I know. As everyone knows when the AO was closing FBWC admitted that he had been writing as other "characters": Ingrid, ts elliot and cherry gitby. At the time of his confession we thought the board was closing for good. When DBS saved the day FBWC was banned for a month for multiple log-ins even though it was not technically against the rules when he did it. A new rule was added which made such activity out-of-bounds. Since then FBWC has not broken that rule.

About private information. I am not sure about this one. Apartly FBWC got in a dust up with some posters (can't remember who) and threats were bandied about. There was a lot of "I know where you live" and "I'm gonna get you." nonsense. Someone, not FBWC, even pm'd what he claimed were SS#.

The whole thing went public: the accusations and cross accusations (not the personal info) I remember pointing out at the time that just because someone had a series of numbers like: 123-45-7890 It does not mean that they were, in fact, real SS#s.

Lib and whoever was in charge at the time sorted out the mess to the best of their ability.

That is all I can tell you.

Many people pile on for this one and it makes interesting reading.

Reading it jogged my memory. Winger Ace appears to be to genesis of the whole thing. He tracked down FBWC's private information and made some very disturbing and specific threats to FBWC and family. FBWC decided to fight back with a little quid pro quo. This was not the smartest move, but I understand his reaction.

Winger Ace, I am sure has his own version of what happened.

At the end of the day this is a case of "who swung first" and there is no clear perpetrator as some of the action took place on other boards. In this thread quite a few people admit to the tracking and swapping of private information and each and every one of them state what great reasons/excuses they had to do so. Frankly, I am appalled by how many people think that getting the other guy back by aping their behavior is the proper response to a situation. That said, I can also imagine how easily something like this can get out of hand.

As far as I am concerned it is a draw, much wrong was done by many people. Thankfully, there was no permanent damage. The sharing of private information is a big no-no as far as our rules are concerned and I will be very firm if this happens again.

As far as I am concerned this case is closed.

I try to keep copies of all my PMs but they can be spread among four computers and in some cases have been lost.

I don't remember what I did about it WRT to F&B. I could ask him. We are friends but I have suspended him a number of times for a number of offenses. Many, probably, but not for some time, I think.

Somewhere on this board are posts from me strongly objecting to his use of multiple IDs. I tihnk it stinks and I have told him so and I reject his rationalizations. I don't think he has done that for a long time and I'm not sure if he did it after the rule was promulgated.

WRT to the PMs identifying one of the posters here, I think AV has it about right. F&B was ticked at one of the posters who he says threatened him in a pretty believable way and by some means or other, which I'm sorta aware of, was able to figure out who that person was. It appears he sent the info to Mr. B.

I am strongly against publicly knowing who anyone else is here. So I even object to F&B giving his info, for example. When it comes to publicly posting such data about someone else I'm responsible for the rule against it. But, I had never considered PMs and I don't see how it is possible to sanction someone for passing along ID info in a PM. The rule doesn't read that way and the very purpose of a PM is a private not public message.

In addition, there is some sort of vague statute of limitations clock running in my head that has saved numerous people from sanctions. If an offense is noticed when it happens then action should be taken. When an offense is a month or six months old, what then? I might say something to someone to ask them to knock it off but unless the action was an extreme and egregious violation of the rules, a rarity, mostly the person gets a pass.

Not very satisfying, Mr B, I'm sure, but that's the story as best I remember it. Bottom line, I don't know what, exactly, I did, if anything, for F&B sending you the ID stuff. I object to that sort of thing but It was private and I don't think violates the rule about posting identifying info.
