We know, from ice-core data, when the Gulf Stream has stopped flowing before. The most recent collapse, 15,000 years ago during the Younger Dryas, was caused by the sweetening of the North Atlantic Ocean, when glaciers covering North America melted and began flowing through the St. Lawrence waterway into the Atlantic, instead of into the Gulf of Mexico via the Mississippi. Today’s accelerated melting of the Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets may recreate these conditions, not just for the Gulf Stream but also for other parts of the global ocean circulation.

In May of this year, the London Times reported that first signs of a slow down of the Gulf Stream had been detected by a Cambridge University researcher, who hitches rides on a Royal Navy submarine to one of the three areas where the Gulf Stream reverses its course. Peter Wadhams said that “until recently we could find giant ‘chimneys’ in the sea where columns of cold, dense water were sinking from the surface to the seabed 3,000 meters below, but now they have almost disappeared.”

Off the coast of Greenland, the Odden Ice Shelf once grew out into the Greenland Sea every winter, and receded in the summer. The Odden triggered the annual formation of sinking water columns in that area. However, since 1997, the shelf has ceased to form. Where Wadhams had once observed 12 giant columns of sinking water under the ice, he now found only two -- and they were so weak that they were unable to reach the seabed.

Wadhams also predicts complete summer melting of the Arctic ice cap by as early as 2020. On his submarine journeys, using sonar to survey the ice cap from underneath, he has observed a 46% thinning over the past 20 years.

The Greenland Ice Sheet is Melting
The biggest danger to the Gulf Stream comes from melt-water off the Greenland ice sheet, the second largest store of fresh water on this planet. If all of it were to melt, sea levels around the world would rise by 7 meters -- over 20 feet. However even a partial meltdown would affect the Gulf Stream, by diluting the salt water right at the crucial point where the Gulf Stream sinks and returns to the tropics.

Prof. Michael Schlesinger from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, whose climate model already predicts a 50% chance of Gulf Stream shutdown if we do not enact climate policies, and a 25% shutdown even if we limit greenhouse gases, based his estimate only on increased rainfall, due to global warming. He now says he will have to include additional melt-water from the Greenland ice sheet into his next set of data, because it appears that the melt has begun.

Observations on the Greenland ice sheet are done by G.P.S. (global positioning systems) and radar and laser via satellites and airplanes. G.P.S. data of the past 5 years show accelerated melting, and even the beginning of a possible feedback effect: the more the ice sheet melts the faster it starts to move. The reason for this acceleration, it is believed, is that melt-water from the surface of the ice sheet makes its way down to the bedrock below, where it acts as a lubricant, further speeding up the slippage and disintegration.

The question now is, when does this feedback process reach the point of no return? James Hansen, head of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies, says that if greenhouse-gas emissions are not controlled now, the total disintegration of the Greenland ice sheet could be set in motion in a matter of decades. Although it could take hundreds, perhaps thousands, of years to fully play out, once begun the process would become self-reinforcing and cannot be halted.

The Gulf Stream is just one part of a complex global system of ocean currents that affect temperatures, winds, and rain across the whole planet. We now have charts of these powerful currents driven by heat and coolness, traversing all oceans, - Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian. And they are all interconnected via the huge circumpolar current flowing around the Antarctic. Changes at the South Pole therefore would have an even larger effect than those in the Arctic.

Ice Shelf Collapses and the Melting of Antarctica
The Antarctic is the 5th largest continent. It holds 90% of the world’s fresh water. A comparison in scale to the Greenland ice sheet shows that if all Antarctic ice were to melt, sea levels would rise by over 169 feet. The Antarctic has had a permanent ice sheet for the last 30 million years.

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) in Cambridge now reports rapid warming on the West Antarctic Peninsula and the WAIS, the West Antarctic Ice Sheet. Of the 224 glaciers on the Antarctic Peninsula, over 87% are in retreat. Major ice shelves have collapsed. BAS scientists believe disappearing ice shelves are now contributing to more rapid melting of glaciers formerly protected by the floating ice shelf at their base.
Antarctica’s huge Larsen B ice shelf collapsed in just 35 days after a NASA satellite detected the first ruptures at the end of January 2002; it was roughly the size of Luxembourg. Soil sediments from that ice shelf reveal that Larsen B had been intact for 20,000 years - since the peak of the last ice age. No collapse of this size has happened since the end of the last Ice Age.

Larsen B's smaller neighbor, Larsen A, broke off in 1995. According to studies by the BAS, other much bigger ice shelves nearby, such as the Ross and Ronne, each larger than France, are also considered at risk of disintegrating.

Another troubling development in the Antarctic, according to the director of the BAS, Chris Rapley, is the accelerated flow of melt streams underneath the Antarctic ice sheet. Until recently, scientists were unable to explain the 20th century’s world-wide sea-level rises of between 1 and 2 mm per year, by the amount of ice that has melted from glaciers and ice sheets. Even after taking into account thermal expansion, they wondered where the extra water was coming from.

Recent discoveries show a major hidden source of water comes from polar ice sheets. In the Antarctic, ice streams, and a newly discovered network of tributaries underneath the ice sheets, drain 33 major basins. Flow rates are much faster than previously assumed. Ice streams, from the feed glaciers behind the collapsed Larsen A and B ice shelves, also show accelerated flows. The BAS calls this a “cork out of the bottle” effect.

These “wild cards,” the melting of the polar ice caps and the acidification of the oceans, were only the most dramatic events on the agenda of the Exeter, UK, meeting on the dangers of climate-change. The number of scientific papers, recording changes in ecosystems due to global warming, escalated in five years, from 14 to more than a thousand. In one presentation after another, scientists described a crisis they had dedicated their lives to avoid.

Geoffrey Lean, who attended the conference, wrote that there were few in the room that did not sense their children or grandchildren standing invisibly at their shoulders. The formal conclusion of the meeting, that climate change was “already occurring” and that “in many cases the risks are more serious than previously thought,” appeared in the press all over the world -- except in the United States. However even in the European press, very few writers took on the scientific details of this story, without which political action and organizing are impossible. Geoffrey Lean wrote: “Mankind is Sleepwalking to the End of the Earth.”

Bush-Wars on Climate Science

After the Exeter meeting, in an interview for TUC Radio, the director of BAS, Chris Rapley, spoke about how, in public appearances, he bridges the gap between science, and popular understanding of these dramatic changes.

He said he always refers to the picture of Earth in space taken by Apollo 17: the small blue planet, tilted back to show the Antarctic, surrounded by inky blackness. The image, he says, shows that this is all there is, no other life-support system trails behind; and, that on the planet all is interconnected.

Earth is the most complex and complicated object in the universe that we know of, says Rapley, a radio astronomer by training. Only Earth has an ocean and clouds. Only Earth has physics, biology, geology, chemistry, and anthropology.

Humans have transformed the earth in a dramatic way, especially in the last 50 years. Not only have we drastically changed the carbon cycle by the burning of fossil fuel and coal, and by increasing forest fires; we have also changed the nitrogen cycle worldwide by the amount of nitrogen being fixed by industrial agriculture and fertilizer use.

We have transformed more than half the land surface through agriculture, deforestation, mining, industry, paving, and ever-growing cities. These changes have altered the climate systems by the way moisture is exchanged between Earth and the atmosphere.

We have destroyed biodiversity by shifting plants and animals into places and conditions where they cannot survive. Our own survival, as humans, is only slightly more secure. We are seeing the most basic of our needs -- air, water, housing, and energy -- disappear before our eyes. Rapley concluded that there is no way to imagine that humans could do all these things without an effect.

The demise of our common life-support system is accelerated by even more energy-intensive activities, by which a privileged group of people attempts to secure its survival.

The meeting in Exeter was held explicitly to convince the Bush administration to join the rest of the industrialized world, and to use the July 2005 G8 meeting to set limits on greenhouse gas emissions. The United States and Australia, the world’s two largest polluters, are -- to this day -- refusing to be part of any global agreement to limit CO2 and other greenhouse gases.

The G8 meeting came and went. The US, with 42% of global fossil fuel CO2, and 34% of combined greenhouse gas emissions, not only remained outside the climate- stabilization effort but also fought vigorously to prevent any progress in setting limits. Given the extraordinary amount of greenhouse gases emitted by the US, this country alone can dramatically slow climate change, or bring the planet to the boiling point.

Three weeks before the G8 summit, The Observer (UK) printed a set of leaked documents revealing how the Bush White House derailed attempts to address global warming. These submissions to the G8 action plan show that Washington officials deleted even the suggestion that global warming has already started.

Among the key sentences removed were: “Our world is warming. Climate change is a serious threat that has the potential to affect every part of the globe. And we know that ... mankind's activities are contributing to this warming. This is an issue we must address urgently.”

At the Exeter conference the International Climate Change Task Force, UK, said that if we do nothing the climate system will collapse. Stephen Byers, the co-chair of that task force and an advisor to Tony Blair, said the point of no return could be reached in a decade. The Bush delegation to the July 2005 G8 summit in Scotland, probably even George Bush himself, is aware of that deadline.

However the warning disappeared under the same blanket of denial and outright lies produced by industry, their paid scientists, and the Bush administration. Among all official documents that deny climate change, only one sends a different message: the report on “Climate Change as a National Security Concern,” commissioned for Donald Rumsfeld by Pentagon defense adviser Andrew Marshall, and made public in February 2004.

The Global Business Network wrote for the Pentagon: “the focus in climate research has slowly been shifting from gradual to rapid change. In 2002, the National Academy of Sciences issued a report concluding that human activities could trigger abrupt change. A year later, the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, included a session at which Robert Gagosian, director of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts, urged policymakers to consider the implications of possible abrupt climate change within two decades.”

Whether in a decade as the UK scientists say, or two as the Pentagon study says, a consensus is developing that we are reaching a phase of dangerous, abrupt, and irreversible climate shifts. However, for the Bush administration, this is not an ecological or humanitarian, but only a military issue. They question only how to protect US borders from environmental refugees, how to overpower nations collapsing under the environmental pressures, how to keep access to food, water, and energy as other parts of the world go hungry and thirsty; how to keep nuclear pre-eminence, while those weapons in other countries fall into the hands of insurgents.

The eerie similarity of these goals and methods, with those of the so-called war on terrorism, raises the question of whether that war on terrorism is not really already a war on the Earth. And, as in the war on terrorism, the already occurring ecological disasters -- like the Osama bin Ladens -- are needed and promoted. And the religious fundamentalists are driving this forward because God has given them dominion over the planet to do as they wish.

And, as irrecoverable time passes, more bad news of ecological landslides emerges: In early August 2005, the New Scientist reported that, in Western Siberia, a permafrost area, the size of France and Germany combined, is thawing for the first time since the ice age, 11,000 years ago. What was until recently an expanse of frozen peat is turning into a broken landscape of mud and lakes, some more than a kilometer across. The area’s peat bog contains an estimated 70 billion tons of methane, a greenhouse gas 20 times more potent than CO2, which, if released, could dramatically increase the rate of global warming.

Even in a best-case scenario, were the methane to be released slowly over a period of 100 years, it would effectively double atmospheric levels of the gas, leading to a 10% to 25% increase in global warming, said scientists at the Hadley Centre in Exeter, UK. The scientists from Tomsk State University and Oxford, who discovered the melt, said that this was yet another feedback effect, an “ecological landslide that is probably irreversible and is undoubtedly connected to climatic warming.”

There may be some, cynical enough to think that climate change is an interesting science fiction experiment, or greedy enough to want to extract the last drop of oil from the dying Earth for a profit.

But what about the rest of us: not cynical, not greedy and arrogant? It is pretty clear that there need to be BIG changes in the way we live -- and that is frightening for many, since we have become so dependent on this technological civilization. However scientists tell us that the extreme weather events to come, such as floods, hurricanes, sea-level rise, and unprecedented heat waves, are more frightening than any change in the way we choose to live now.

There is a set of figures that is both deeply depressing and hopeful. The last published World Bank data for CO2 emissions per capita indicate that, while every man, woman, and child in the US puts out 20 metric tons of CO2 per annum, those in the European Union put out 8 per person per year; China 2; and the output of Nigerians, who supply us with much of the oil that we burn into CO2, is zero -- below scale. In 2002, US-Americans used over 12,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per person; Europeans used less than half the amount, while the use in China is 987 kilowatt-hours per person. The US per-capita use of oil is twice that of the European Union, and more than 8 times that of China.

What if China aspires to our standard of living? And why not, if we are not willing to cut back? Europe gets by with so much less CO2-output and energy-input, while already planning for further cuts. Where is the measure of global justice, between those who cause no harm and those whose extravagant use of fossil fuels harms everybody else?

Regardless of who is driving this: industry, the military, religious fundamentalists, or any permutation of government, be it red or blue, responsibility for the approaching climate collapse will fall overwhelmingly on the United States. Since the US government and corporations not only refuse to cut back but are driving eco-collapse forward, it is up to ordinary people to refuse collaboration and to control the perpetrators. For us living in the US, the opportunity and time to make a difference that will affect the entire planet is now.

Interesting take on CO2, Jimbo.
But your claim has it that anthropogenic CO2 emissions aren't the problem, and your "chemtrails" are the solution.

Is it any wonder your fellow chemmies, save the blind soldier Wayne, have rejected you?

Collapse Of Sea And Bird Life In The Pacific Reported

Fish Numbers Plummet in Warming Pacific

A catastrophic collapse in sea and bird life numbers along America's
Northwest Pacific seaboard is raising fears that global warming is beginning to
irreparably damage the health of the oceans.

Scientists say a dramatic rise in the ocean temperature led to unprecedented
deaths of birds and fish this summer all along the coast from central
California to British Columbia in Canada.

The population of seabirds, such as cormorants, auklets and murres, and fish,
including salmon and rockfish, fell to record lows.

This ecological meltdown mirrors a similar development taking place thousands
of miles away in the North Sea, which The Independent on Sunday first
reported two years ago. Also caused by warming of the water, the increase in
temperatures there has driven the plankton that form the base of the marine food chain
hundreds of miles north, triggering a collapse in the number of sand eels on
which many birds and large fish feed and causing a rapid decline in puffins,
razorbills, kittiwakes and other birds.

The collapses in the Pacific are also down to the disappearance of plankton,
though the immediate cause for this is different. Normally, winds blow south
along the coast in spring and summer, pushing warmer surface waters away from
the shore and allowing colder water that is rich in nutrients to well up from
the sea bottom, feeding the microscopic plants called phytoplankton. These are
eaten by zooplankton, tiny animals that in turn feed fish, seabirds and marine
mammals.

But this year the winds were extraordinarily weak and the cold water did not
well up in spring as usual. Water temperatures soared to 7C above normal,
which delighted bathers but caused the whole delicate system to collapse. The
amount of phytoplankton crashed to a quarter of its usual level.

"In 50 years this has never happened," said Bill Peterson, an oceanographer
with the US government's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA,
in Newport, Oregon.

Record numbers of dead seabirds soon washed up on beaches along the coast.
There were up to 80 times more dead Brandt's cormorants, a fishing bird, than in
previous years.

Tests showed the birds died of starvation. "They are not finding enough food,
and so they use up the energy stored in their muscles, liver and body fat,"
said Hannah Nevins, who investigated similar mass deaths in Monterey Bay.

Many fear the ecological collapse is a portent of things to come, as the
world heats up. A Canadian Government report noted that ocean temperatures off
British Colombia reached record levels last year as well, blaming "general
warming of global lands and oceans". And Professor Ronald Neilson, of Oregon State
University, added: "The oceans are generally warming up and there are all sorts
of signs that something strange is afoot."

Chemtrails Are Over Las Vegas
Marcus K. Dalton
Tribune Media Group

Part 1

Editor's Note: Las Vegas residents are increasingly noticing the appearance
of chemical trails overhead. They appear EVERY weekend without fail, the only
exception being the two weeks after September 11, 2001. Such "chemtrails" are
substantially different in appearance to the normal condensation trails left by
jet airliners. The difference is that while condensation trails are composed
of water vapor that dissipates rapidly, "chemtrails" linger much longer and
spread out over time to eventually cover the sky with a thin haze. This week the
Las Vegas Tribune begins a two-part article to examine the undeniable and
mysterious phenomena of Chemtrails Over Las Vegas.

Last year a concerned reader wrote to the Idaho Observer: "Driving across
Idaho and Nevada we saw normal condensation trails in the skies above north Idaho
and we were habitually looking up as we drove toward Las Vegas. We had
noticed that the sparsely populated areas in Nevada had brilliantly clear blue skies
and that the occasional airplane left vapor trails that dissipated normally.
But as soon as we neared Las Vegas, in the skies directly above the city, we
watched what appeared to be a military C-135 Transports spraying something over
the populated areas. When the planes were no longer directly over Las Vegas,
they continued flying leaving a vapor trail that dissipated normally."

It has been reported that the "chemtrails" contain ethylene dibromide -- a
substance that has been an additive to gasoline and airplane fuels as well as a
banned pesticide. Ethylene dibromide has been linked to kidney and liver
damage and is an immunosuppressive and a lung irritant.

William Thomas, who has researched chemtrails since their appearance in the
latter 90s, has noted stunted plant growth in once-healthy gardens and
wilderness areas in Santa Fe and Aspen. Similar
plant problems are commonly associated with chemtrails in other regions of
the U.S.

A brief history of the chemtrail phenomenon can be traced to a Washington
state man who told award-winning investigative reporter William Thomas that he'd
become ill on New Year's Day 1999 after watching several jets make strange
lines in the sky. Within six months, Thomas, writing primarily for the
Environmental News Service, has detailed 1000s of eyewitness reports of chemtrails from
40 states.

"Mainstream newspapers have gone out of their way to dismiss these eyewitness
accounts," Thomas told the New Mexican newspaper in June 1999, "It's easier
to sell UFOs to major media than a phenomena as close in many cities as the
nearest window."

Especially disturbing for residents of heavily chemtrailed communities like
Las Vegas is a "chemtrail sickness" associated with heavy spray days leaving
many stricken people complaining of the "flu" and acute allergic reactions
months after the flu season has ended. Upper and lower respiratory and
gastrointestinal ailments remain unusually high in many spray areas, along with
debilitating fatigue - and something even more worrying.

What's going on?

Thomas is convinced that we are under "deliberate biological attack" by
agents known only to top military and government officials responsible for
permitting continuing over-flights by unmarked spray aircraft.

Government officials deny that anything unusual is taking place, yet
increasing numbers of concerned observers are seeing 727-like aircraft painted
"all-white with a black stripe up the middle of fuselage" laying long and often
cries-crossing chemtrail patterns over Southern Nevada and elsewhere. None of the
planes carry identifying markings.

Pat Edgar has been watching the jets spraying over eastern Oklahoma since a
sunny day in October, 1997 when as many as 30 contrails gradually occluded the
sky. "They look like they're playing tic-tac-toe up there," he says. "You know
darn well it's not passenger planes." Edgar says he has watched "cob-webbing
stuff coming down" from the zigzagging jets flying "all day long, line after
line, back-and-forth, like furrows in a farm field." Edgar adds "There is a lot
of Lupus in the area now. A lot of women have come down with it."

One source, who spoke to the Tribune under condition of anonymity, working as
a civilian archeologist on government land throughout Nevada, began to notice
"all white unmarked aircraft" preparing for take-off at Nellis AFB and at the
Mancamp Complex near Tonapah in the late-90s. "It was these unmarked planes
that were constantly laying down the criss-crossing X patterns of lingering
chemical-spray trails over Southern Nevada." When the archeologist asked the
military escort who accompanied the civilian research team into 'sensitive' areas
around Nellis, about the planes, the reply received was, "You didn't see
anything."

Another Las Vegas resident, Sandy Range, grew up within an outdoors field and
stream-type family and has been watching the weather and the skies all her
life. Holding a degree from Syracuse University, Range moved to Las Vegas in
1989. "I first began to notice the chemtrails in late '96 - 14 criss-crossed
miles-long vapor trails that didn't evaporate like the norm. I began to see them
weekly, then daily," Range states matter-of-factly.

One early morning in '99 Range was returing from Henderson when a low-flying
craft dropped a trail right overhead along Boulder Highway. "It covered my car
with a sticky web-like coating and I saved a specimen in a jar. Microscopic
fiber-like filaments," Range reports.

Government denials, as usual.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio authored the Space Preservation Act of
2001, which sought a "permanent ban against weapons in space," specifically
banning "chemtrails" as weapons. But in a subsequent version of the bill, the
"chemtrails" language disappeared entirely. The missing words suggest an
eyes-wide-open denial, which says as much about the cover-up as it does about the
spraying that's plainly visible in the sky.

Con't

In a front-page story entitled "Conspiracy theorists look up," the Akron
Beacon Journal noted that Kucinich's bill "had been rewrittenand the references to
chemtrails and the other types of weapons were quietly eliminated." The
Beacon Journal article, linking chemtrails to conspiracies, resulted from massive
local pressure. Michel Massullo of Akron provided that newspaper with rolls of
photos of plane trails and a sworn affidavit attesting to extensive aerial
activity over that city.

The U.S. Air Force Website refutes the "Chemtrail Hoax" as having been around
since 1996, "accusing the Air Force of being involved in spraying the U.S.
population" with mysterious substances: "Several authors cite an Air University
research paper titled 'Weather as a Force Multiplier: Owning the Weather in
2025' that suggests the Air Force is conducting weather modification
experiments. The purpose of that paper was part of a thesis to outline a strategy for the
use of a future weather modification system to achieve military objectives
and it does not reflect current military policy, practice, or capability. The
Air Force is not conducting any weather modification experiments or programs and
has no plans to do so in the future. The 'chemtrail' hoax has been
investigated and refuted by many established and accredited universities, scientific
organizations, and major media publications."

Explaining the government's position, Lieutenant Colonel Michael K. Gibson of
the U.S. Air Force wrote U.S. Representative Mark Green in August 2000 and
stated, "The term 'chemtrail' is a hoax that began circulating approximately
three years ago which asserts the government is involved in a joint federal
program of covert spraying of the public."

But many intelligent researchers call Gibson's communique a classic
non-denial denial: Gibson is denying that the Air Force is secretly spraying U.S.
citizens. The reality is the U.S. Space Command and other government agencies are
involved in ongoing experiments for military and environmental purposes that
involve aerial spraying, and the microfibers and other sprayed chemicals
inevitably fall to earth, putting the public at risk.

Before you believe Gibson's and the government's "denial," do an Internet
search for the following terms: "Joint Vision for 2020" and "Weather is a Force
Multiplier: Owning the Weather in 2025", a whitepaper by MIT's Bernard Eastlund
and H-bomb father Edward Teller. Before he died in 2003, Teller was director
emeritus of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where plans for nuclear,
biological and directed energy weapons are crafted. In 1997, Teller publicly
outlined his proposal to use aircraft to scatter through the stratosphere
millions of tons of electrically-conductive metallic materials, ostensibly to reduce
global warming.

Two scientists working at Wright Patterson Air Force Base confirmed to the
Ohio newspaper, Columbus Alive, that they were involved in aerial spraying
experiments. One involved aluminum oxide spraying related to global warming and the
other involved barium stearate and had to do with high-tech military
communications.

And even in the face of government denials, environmental laboratories have
begun to identify an extremely toxic component of the spray drifting over
cities and countryside. Several independent sources claim that samples of fallout
from the lingering smoke trails and have been independently tested and found to
contain ethylene dibromide (EDB).

In 1998, a US Air Force public affairs officer told residents of Las Vegas
that their sudden upsurge of respiratory ailments could have come from "routine"
fuel-dumping by military aircraft reducing weight for landing.

An extremely hazardous pesticide, EDB was banned by the US Environmental
Protection Agency in 1983. But in 1991, the composition of jet fuel used by
commercial and military jet aircraft in the U.S. was changed from JP4 to somewhat
less flammable JP8. A Department of Defense source says the move "has saved some
lives" in air crashes. Ethylene dibromide is a key component of JP8.

The 1991 Chemical Hazards of the Workplace warns that repeated exposure to
low levels of ethylene dibromide results in "general weakness, vomiting,
diarrhea, chest pains, coughing and shortness of breath, upper respiratory tract
irritation" and respiratory failure caused by swelling of the lymph glands in the
lungs. "Deterioration of the heart, liver and kidneys, and hemorrhages in the
respiratory tract," can also result from prolonged contact with JP8.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's hazardous materials
list: "Ethylene dibromide is a carcinogen and must be handled with extreme
caution." A seven-page summary of this pesticide's extreme toxicity notes that EDB
may also damage the reproductive system. According to the EPA, "Exposure can
irritate the lungs, repeated exposure may cause bronchitis, development of
cough, and shortness of breath. It will damage the liver and kidneys".

Mark Witten, a respiratory physiologist at the University of Arizona in
Tucson where an official US Air Force study on JP8 was carried out, told Scientist
in March, 1998 that crew chiefs "seem to have more colds, more bronchitis,
more chronic coughs than the people not exposed to jet fuel."

EDB is 6.5-times heavier than air. Unlike normal condensation trails, the
thick white streamers being sprayed from downward-pointing tail-booms over at
least 39 states does not dissipate, but spreads into an overcast that refracts a
purple color in sunlight and appears suddenly as an oily film in puddles and
ponds.

Hundreds of photographs and videotapes made by ground observers show pairs or
larger formations of aircraft spreading a white mist that thickens and drifts
toward the ground. Thousands of eye-witnesses - including police officers,
pilots, military and public health personnel - have provided detailed accounts
of aerial spraying in characteristic "X"s and east-to-west grid patterns,
followed by occluded skies - and acute auto-immune reactions and respiratory
infections throughout affected regions.

Severe headaches, nosebleeds, shortness of breath, joint pain and a dry
hacking cough "that never leaves" are being reported by countless Americans jamming
hospital Emergency Rooms from coast to coast. While December and January are
traditionally bad months for asthma sufferers, patients, doctors and nurses
across the U.S. report hospital wards filled to overflowing with bronchitis,
pneumonia and acute asthma admissions at up to twice-normal winter rates.

"We're getting sprayed real heavily with the chemtrails," a Las Vegas
resident told the Tribune. " On some days it's just total saturation."

As over-filled Pennsylvania hospitals were forced to divert respiratory
emergencies to other facilities with bed space, a south-central Pennsylvania
resident, Deborah Kammerer, looked out her window and watched aircraft "flying and
dispersing over the city. It was supposed to be a clear sunny day. It became
more overcast as the day progressed. I observed how the white trails widened out
and settled down creating a haze over everything."

Where is the mainstream media's reporting of this mass phenomenon?
Indications of a concerted cover-up came in February 2003, when a retired Southern
Baptist preacher named Everett Burton finally succeeded in reaching C-span. After
voicing his opinion on the Clinton impeachment trial, this former minister told
Americans to get a copy of the Constitution and read it to realize what they
have lost. Rev. Burton then advised viewers not to take his word for what was
happening in the US, "just look up in the skies as the planes regularly spray
contrails across the skies, spraying people and making them ill." At that
point, Rev. Burton was cut off. The screen flipped from C-span to the Tennessee
state seal, remained silent for several minutes.

... to be concluded next week.

'Chemtrails' In Las Vegas Skies
Marcus K. Dalton
Tribune Media Group

(Editor's note: Chemtrails Part 1 appeared in the August 19th edition of Las
Vegas Tribune and may be found online at www.LasVegasTribune.com)

Las Vegas residents are increasingly noticing the appearance of
long-lingering chemical trails overhead. They appear virtually every weekend and on most
weekdays, the only exception being the two weeks after September 11, 2001. Such
"chemtrails" are substantially different in appearance to the normal
'condensation' trails left by jet airliners. The difference is that while condensation
trails are composed largely of water vapor that dissipates rapidly,
"chemtrails" linger much longer and spread out over time to eventually cover the sky
with a thin haze.

Especially disturbing for residents of heavily chemtrailed communities like
Las Vegas is a "chemtrail sickness" associated with heavy spray days leaving
many stricken people complaining of the "flu" and acute allergic reactions
months after the flu season has ended. Upper and lower respiratory and
gastrointestinal ailments remain unusually high in many spray areas, along with
debilitating fatigue.

The U.S. Air Force Website refutes the "Chemtrail Hoax" as having been around
since 1996: "... accusing the Air Force of being involved in spraying the
U.S. population" with mysterious substances... "The 'chemtrail' hoax has been
investigated and refuted by many established and accredited universities,
scientific organizations, and major media publications," claims the Air Force.

But contrary to the Air Force website denial, scientists working at Wright
Patterson Air Force Base confirmed to the Ohio newspaper, Columbus Alive, that
they were involved in aerial spraying experiments. One involved aluminum oxide
spraying related to global warming and the other involved barium stearate and
had to do with high-tech military communications.

Ethylene dibromide is a key component of JP8.

According to Las Vegas resident and sky-watcher, Sandy Range, "The trails
turn on and off like old-time sky-writers and crop dusters... they are a
controlled spray typically ended with precision as the trails reach the edge of the
populated areas."

One early morning in '99 Range was returning from Henderson when a low-flying
craft dropped a trail right overhead along Boulder Highway. "It covered my
car with a sticky web-like coating and I saved a specimen in a jar. Microscopic
fiber-like filaments," Range reports.

Tommy Farmer, a former engineering technician with Raytheon Missile Systems,
has been tracking patterns of jet chemtrails phenomena for more than a year.
Farmer has "positively identified" two of the aircraft most often involved in
the aerial spraying incidents as a Boeing KC-135 and Boeing KC-10. Both big
jets are used by the U.S. Air Force for air-to-air refueling.

Confirming reports from eyewitnesses across the United States, Farmer reports
that most chemtrail producing aircraft are painted either solid white or
solid black with no other identifying markings visible.

Farmer has collected samples of what he calls "angel hair" sprayed by the
mystery aircraft. Farmer says that globular filaments resembling ordinary spider
webs, "usually fall in clumps or wads ranging from pencil eraser size to the
size of a balled up fist."

Winds often whip the cobweb-like material into filaments as long as 50 feet
and that the sticky substance "melts in your hands" and "adheres to whatever it
touches."

After repeatedly observing aircraft spraying "in front of and into cloud
systems," Farmer is "fairly certain the chemtrail phenomena is one part of a
military weather modification and weapons system."

"The huge Xs being traced by formations of tanker jets in the sky can be
tracked by satellite and coordinated with electro-magnetic beams to heat the upper
atmosphere - changing its temperature and density and enhancing weather
effects, theorizes Farmer referring to the government's 'HAARP' project.

Enviromental journalist, William Thomas, is convinced that chemtrails are a
"deliberate biological attack" by agents known only to top military and
government officials responsible for permitting continuing over-flights by unmarked
spray aircraft.

High Altitude Auroral Research Project Based in Gakon, Alaska, the
unclassified joint U.S. Air Force and Navy project known as the High Altitude Auroral
Research Project (HAARP) has for the past several years been using phased array
antennas to steer powerful beams of tightly-focused radio waves to stimulate,
heat and steer sections of the upper atmosphere.

Awarded in 1985 to MIT physicist Bernard Eastlund, HAARP's commercial patent
claims that directed energy beams of more than one-billion watts can be used
for "altering the upper atmosphere wind patterns using plumes of atmospheric
particles as a lens or focusing device" to disturb weather thousands of miles
away.

Speaking to William Thomas and Environment News Service, a Lycos subsidiary,
Eastlund admitted, "I had looked at using this intense beam, which can be
angled, to do some experiments in terms of guiding the jetstream, moving it from
one spot to another. I presume it is possible, which might lend credence to
these other things."

In the U.S. Air Force research study, "Weather as a Force Multiplier" issued
in August, 1996, seven U.S. military officers outlined how HAARP and aerial
cloud-seeding from tankers could allow U.S. aerospace forces to "own the
weather" by the year 2025. Among the desired objectives were "Storm Enhancement,"
"Storm Modification" and "Drought Inducement."

"In the United States, weather-modification will likely become a part of
national security policy with both domestic and international applications," the
report goes on to say.

Within 30 years, the Air Force foresees using Weather Force Support Elements
with "the necessary sensor and communication capabilities to observe, detect,
and act on weather-modification requirements to support U.S. military
objectives" by using airborne cloud generation and seeding techniques, the 1996 Air
Force report says.

Con't

But on its HAARP website, the U.S. Navy says, "The HAARP facility will not
affect the weather. Transmitted energy in the frequency ranges that will be used
by HAARP is subject to negligible absorption in either the troposphere or the
stratosphere - the two levels of the atmosphere that produce the earth's
weather. Electromagnetic interactions only occur in the near-vacuum of the
rarefied region above about 70 km known as the ionosphere."

Still, according to the Air Force's 1996 report, other routine
weather-modification missions will deploy "cirrus shields" formed by the chemtrails of
high-flying aircraft "to deny enemy visual and infrared surveillance."

Once fully developed the HAARP facility will consist of 180 antennas on a
total land area of about 33 acres will produce

approximately 3.6 million watts of radio frequency power, the HAARP website
states. The Air Force says HAARP transmitters have been designed to operate
"very linearly so that they will not produce radio interference to other users of
the radio spectrum."

Farmer guesses that besides its obvious tactical military applications,
aerial-seeding of contrail-clouds aligned in HAARP's characteristic grid-patterns
could be part of a secret U.S. government initiative to address the global
weather crisis brought about by atmospheric warming.

Dr. Len Horowitz, "Conspiracy Theorist"

You're sick. Your nose is stuffy, your body aches, you're sweaty, and you
don't have enough energy to get out of bed. It's not the flu - it's a conspiracy.
At least, that's what Dr. Len Horowitz says.

Over the past 10 years, Horowitz has become America's most controversial
medical authority. A university-trained medical researcher, Horowitz, 48, charges
that elements of the United States government are conspiring with major
pharmaceutical companies to make large segments of the population sick. More than
that, he charges that these same conspirators created the AIDS epidemic to kill
Blacks, Hispanics and gays. And if that's not enough, Horowitz argues that
Adolph Hitler created the New World Order to fulfill his twisted dream of world
domination.

Horowitz has made these claims in a series of books, videos, public
appearances and radio talk shows. Today, Horowitz is best known as one of the most
vocal opponents of government-mandated vaccines. He believes that vaccine
manufacturers have purposely contaminated their products with a wide range of exotic
viruses, including funguses developed by the United States military. He
believes contaminated vaccines were intentionally used to create the AIDS epidemic.

Despite his 'wild' claims, Horowitz has a serious academic background. After
he received a doctorate in dentistry from Tufts University, he was awarded a
fellowship to do behavioral research at the University of Rochester. Horowitz
later earned a Master of Public Health degree in behavioral science from
Harvard University and a Masters degree in health education from Beacon College. He
has also served on the faculties of Tufts University, Harvard University, and
Leslie College's Institute for the Arts and Human Development. His published
research reports have appeared in a diverse array of scientific, professional,
and lay periodicals ranging from "American Health" and "Wellness Management"
magazines to the "Journal of Patient Education and Counseling," the "Journal of
AIDS Patient Care" and the "British Dental Journal."

Horowitz has traveled the country for years, speaking at both his own
seminars and at survivalist-oriented Preparedness Expos, where he has appeared before
large, enthusiastic crowds. A dynamic public speaker, Horowitz has presented
his conspiracy theories to hundreds of thousands of people over the past
decade, personally selling his books and tapes before and after his presentations.
He has also appeared on numerous talk radio shows, including the nationally
broadcast, locally produced "Art Bell Show".

Speaking to Jim Redden of The Konformist last year, Horowitz pulled no
punches on the subject of chemtrails: "I believe the chemtrails are responsible for
a chemical intoxication of the public, which would then cause a general immune
suppression, low grade to high grade, depending on exposure. An immune
dysfunction, which would then allow people to become susceptible to opportunistic
infections."

Asked if he believes that high-flying planes are, in fact, spraying something
on the population, Horowitz responds: "There's no question that it's real. I
first began to investigate chemtrails when some were sprayed over my home in
Northern Idaho. I took pictures of them, and then contacted the Environmental
Protection Agency of the state. When I contacted their directors, they were
clueless and referred me to the Air Force. They then got me in touch with Centers
for Disease Control Toxicology, and after about a week I received a letter
from one of their chief toxicologists saying, indeed there was some amount of
ethylene dibromide in the jet fuel."

Ethylene dibromide is a known human chemical carcinogen that was removed from
unleaded gasoline because of its cancer-causing effects. Now suddenly it has
appeared in the jet fuel that apparently high-altitude military aircraft are
emitting.

But why would a known carcinogen be added to jet fuel after being removed
from automotive fuel?

According to the Horowitz conspiracy theory, when you examine who owns the
fuel, who are the fuel company directors, you enter into the realm of the
Rockefeller family and the royal families - Standard Oil and British Petroleum. And
what are their other agendas?

"Suddenly now you see their documents, showing that they have historically
funded eugenics, racial hygiene, genocide, depopulation, family planning,
maternal and child health - where they make and deliver vaccines - and contaminated
blood supplies. These are the 'banksters', the same people who run the blood
banking as well as the money banking industries," says Horowitz.

The Rockefellers monopolized American medicine in the 1920s. They, along with
I.G. Farben, Germany's leading industrial organization, held the monopoly on
the world's chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

Extensive documentation by Dr. Len Horowitz in the Journal Of Degenerative
Diseases
link several giant pharmaceutical corporations, the US, Canadian and British
military, and powerful families in the US and Britain with 70 years of
research and clandestine testing of increasingly sophisticated and "stealthy"
bioweapons capable of reducing populations.

While there is as yet no link between these ongoing, documented programs of
population reduction and the chemtrails phenomenon, it is striking that
spreading outbreaks of flu-like respiratory infections have been traced by Horowitz
and others to deliberate and/or accidental releases into North American
bloodstreams through vaccines as well as public exposures to industry and military
produced carcinogens, like EDB

"These 'weaponized' agents target the elderly and other immune-compromised
victims whose deaths go largely unremarked," Horowitz explains.

"The U.S. government has a long history of denying inexcusable covert
operations. These are the people who told you about the joys of nuclear radiation,
that Agent Orange could defoliate a tropical jungle overnight but was harmless
to humans. This is the same government that secretly experimented on its
citizens with everything from syphilis to LSD, concludes Horowitz.

The Pentagon would now have the public believe that the mass sightings of
chemtrails over Las Vegas and much of North America are collective
hallucinations, even though the boys at the government's Lawrence Livermore experimental lab
admit that they've discussed massive aerial spraying and run computer
simulations on the effects of weather modification for military and peacetime
purposes.

Commenting under condition of anonymity a Tribune confidential source
speculates: "Whatever this material is, it cannot be good for us. Moreover, it
represents another example of Americans taking their liberty and well being for
granted. It may be that weather agencies, NASA and National Oceanic & Atmospheric
Administration know enough to keep their mouths shut."

"The overall scope and agenda behind chemtrails - Operation Clover Leaf,
Operation Red Sky, Operation Rain Dance - the code names for these ops -
intertwines several overall objectives deemed imperative by the real power in DC, which
is the National Security Administration. It should be noted that most of the
intel groups that are involved in domestic control are, in varying degrees,
in-the-loop on this business and are actively working with the Office of Naval
Intelligence and the NSA in seeing this program succeed," concludes the source.

The chemtrails in the skies above Las Vegas are a most troublesome enigma.

Chemtrails - Coming Out Of The Closet?
Marcus K. Dalton
Tribune Media Group

Last month the Tribune featured a 2-part story titled Chemtrails Over Las
Vegas wherein we reported on the purposeful spraying of noxious chemicals
overhead. Prior to our story the chemtrail sightings were occurring daily, and then
suddenly all chemtrail activity in the Southern Nevada skies stopped abruptly.

Such "chemtrails" are substantially different in appearance to the normal
'condensation' trails left by jet airliners. The difference is that condensation
trails are composed largely of water vapor that dissipates rapidly while
"chemtrails" linger much longer and spread out over time to eventually cover the
sky with a thin haze.

Nearly seven years after extensive "lay downs" of lingering and spreading
white plumes were first reported smearing skies over across North America, Europe
is in an uproar and Washington could be close to coming clean about
chemtrails.

"At least the Bush White house will soon have a legitimate weather control
agency to finally 'launder' one of the biggest cons ever perpetrated," writes
researcher William Thomas in the August 17th edition of Convergence Weekly.

Introduced in the US Senate on March 1, 2005, Bill S517 calls for a US
"Weather Modification Advisory and Research Board" to officially commence operations
in October 2005. When passed as expected, this law will make large-scale
chemical alteration of the atmosphere legal across the skies of North America.

According to Thomas: Less than two weeks before the bill was introduced,
readers wrote from "up here in the mountains of northeast Georgia" of the worst
spray day they had ever seen. "Not one day in the past two months have we had a
blue sky with normal clouds." Even normal clouds "...are 'laced with whatever
the hell is coming out of those white planes that have no engine sounds, even
when they fly low enough to see there are no ID markings anywhere on the
planes," the readers informed Thomas.

Independent researchers have revealed that the "chemtrails" contain a host of
poisonous carcinogens including ethylene dibromide (EDB) -- a substance that
has been an additive to gasoline and airplane fuels as well as a banned
pesticide. Ethylene dibromide has been linked to kidney and liver damage and is an
immunosuppressive and a lung irritant. Despite the potential dangers and the
growing number of concerned citizens, there has been a virtual media blackout on
the subject of chemtrails.

Doing something about the weather?

Whatever fresh environmental disaster Bill S517 accomplishes, this bill will
ease the way for admission of a project suspected by many and confirmed by air
traffic controllers at America's biggest airports. When and if the US public
demands that their government "do something" about the extreme weather
pummeling their neighborhoods, Washington will be able to officially reply, "We are."

Intended to "develop and implement a comprehensive and coordinated national
weather modification policy," the board is tasked with coordinating state and
federal weather modification efforts.

It's direct mandate is stepped-up research and development aimed at
developing experimental "models, devices, equipment, materials, and processes" to
change or control, "by artificial methods" the development of clouds and/or
precipitation in the troposphere. This weather-forming region of the atmosphere lies
between Earth's surface and the stratosphere, starting at around 35,000 feet.

"The federal weather modifiers will now directly oversee the cloud-seeding
operations currently being carried out over dozens of states to increase rain
and snowfall for irrigation, electrical power and winter recreation purposes. As
droughts intensify under an onslaught of moisture-absorbing chemicals
dispensed behind ozone-destroying jet tankers, and future towns wash away in sudden
flash floods triggered by rain-inducing atmospheric tinkering, these unnatural
disasters and other "inadvertent" effects of weather modification will be
closely "studied" by the newly created board," says Thomas.

But no studies have been released on the implications of wide-scale
alteration of regional atmospheric heat balances.

And despite the appearance of Bill S517, large-scale weather modification is
banned under the United Nations Environmental Modification Convention signed
by Washington in 1970.

Chemtrails today

Meanwhile, recent heavy "chemtrail" spraying over Las Vegas and elsewhere in
the North American skies has eased off. Another long-time chemtrail "hot
zone", Santa Cruz, California, continues to report clear blue skies unmarked by the
chemplanes' ugly scrawl.

Canadians also have their eyes wide open. In June 2005, large graffiti
spray-painted on a major overpass in West Vancouver advised motorists: WAKE UP, LOOK
UP, CHEMTRAILS ARE EVERYWHERE!

USAF insider talks

A senior active duty air force insider has described to Thomas new
"environmental-combat" missions already being flown by specially-outfitted C-130
Hercules transports, which can be reloaded, re-fueled and re-launched in just 10
minutes to continue their assault on violent storms afflicting US communities.
Flown by regular air force pilots, these "science flights" include onboard
meteorologists, who painstakingly log the results of each mission.

"Big storm fronts and hurricanes require a vast amount of absorbent chemicals
to reduce their destructive power," Thomas was told by the insider. "To
achieve the fast turn-around times needed to complete their missions, flights of
returning C-130s taxi to a stop and immediately commence refueling as the empty
onboard spray canister is removed. As soon as the empty canister is clear of
the aircraft, a waiting truck wheels a semi-trailer-size container of
sky-seeding chemicals to the plane's lowered rear ramp, where it is slid inside on
rails like a gigantic 'soda dispenser'."

The air force insider added that other spray missions spread (barium)
chemtrails to facilitate 3D radar mapping of the entire continental United States. He
also said that the air force has been spraying storm fronts "for a long
time". The military's main interest, he added, is experimentation aimed at gaining
control of the weather for military use.

Did the air force spray this year's first Caribbean hurricane, in which the
western quadrant disintegrated just before making its Texas landfall? "There's
no reason they wouldn't," the air force insider replied.

But C-130 turboprops would not necessarily be used to try to influence
hurricanes that typically release more energy than all atomic arsenals combined.
Referring to the 757s-767's recently modified for aerial spraying, the air force
insider told Thomas, "We've got them, but I can't talk about them."

He added that many people in the air force "are aware of William Thomas" and
his reporting on chemtrails. The air force insider confirmed that this
reporter "has it mostly right" concerning the application and purposes behind
chemtrails. But would not elaborate on my reporting.

And now a European uproar Meanwhile, the chemtrails controversy has taken
Europe by storm following a series of articles by Swiss freelance journalist
Gabriel Stetter in the German popular science magazine Raum+Zeit (Space and Time),
circulation circa 50,000.

Stetter's first article, "White Skies" created a public relations nightmare
for Greenpeace when it informed readers in January 2004 how "Thousands of
people were thoroughly shocked when they realized, and were informed by Greenpeace
in Germany, Switzerland and Austria thatfor some reason or otherGreenpeace has
no interest in the chemtrail question whatsoever."

The Swiss government also came under public pressure to explain the
checkerboards being painted in its skies. On March 5, 2004 the Environment Department
in Berne, Switzerland responded to an inquiry by Rudolf Rechsteiner, a Social
Democratic member of parliament, admitting that "A number of ideas exist that
show how it would be possible to reduce global warming by technical means, at
least in the short term."

But these ideas, the government office hastened to add, "are no more than
theoretical. We are not aware of any practical application of these methods,
either at home or abroad."

Ten days later, Greenpeace Switzerland climate and transport expert Cyrill
Studer wrote an internal memo assuring colleagues that while he had "heard of
the chemtrails phenomenon," for the present, Greenpeace "will not be following
up the theme of chemtrails."

But outside Greenpeace's corporate offices, the controversy continued. On
June 11 German Greenpeace spokeswoman Kristine Läger told concerned constituents:
"The idea of reducing global warming by putting chemicals in the atmosphere
has been around a long time. There are various proposals in this direction,
suggesting the chemicals should be independently sprayed and that they should be
mixed with the fuel of ordinary passenger aircraft. Whether in Germany such
proposals have reached the point of actual realization is highly questionable.
So far as we are aware there are no indications from research and observation
of weather and climate that these so-called chemtrails exist. Nor are we aware
of any project that has been realized in practice. In all probability this is
not happening."

"Well, supposing the word 'chemtrails' appeared in print in the Greenpeace
Magazine," Stetter speculates. "How many tens of thousands of people more would
look up into the sky and recognize that the supposedly Utopian "proposal" has
long moved on via "spraying trials" to a systematic, long-term spreading of
cloud cover over the whole of Europe?"

Back in Basel, Gabriel Stetter quoted unsourced opinion polls showing that in
this "stronghold" of chemtrails believers - one in ten people - "have already
heard of them despite the media blackout. Several thousand people in the
prosperous town at the bend in the Rhine know that the chemtrails phenomenon
suggests that something is seriously wrong."

Not members any more

"Veteran anti-nuclear activists, campaigners for animal welfare or against
electro-smog - in their alarm they had all turned to Greenpeace because of the
chemtrails, which are visible everywhere in the skies above Basel. But a
painful experience awaited all of them. They were palmed off with the same
unsatisfactory answers that concerned Americans have grown tired of hearing. The
consequence drawn by these elderly well-to-do activists, from Greenpeace's lack of
interest, was the immediate cancellation of membership of many years, the
withdrawal of legacies, and the withholding of payments to Greenpeace until further
notice," said Stetter.

As Brian Holmes notes on his website, www.holmestead.ca, the October 2004
issue #131 of the Raum + Zeit contained many pages of letters from readers
responding positively to Stetter's first article in issue #127. "Many of these
letters are illustrated with color photographs supplied by the readers themselves."

German Parlimentarian admits chemtrails

A former six-year board member of Greenpeace Germany, Monika Griefahn chaired
the Committee for Culture and Media of the Federal German Parliament when she
replied to a letter from two chemtrails dissenters in July 2004, stating, "I
am in basic agreement with your concerns. Instead of making a concerted and
determined effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the world,
experiments of various kinds are being carried out in the earth's atmosphere in
order to cure the symptoms."

On
June 11 German Greenpeace spokeswoman Kristine Läger told concernederable toxic
potential," the parliamentarian went on to say, "however, so far as I am aware
the extent of their use is so far minimal."

"At last!" Stetter announced in the German science magazine. "There we have
it. In the skies of Germany, so Social Democratic member of Parliament Monika
Griefahn tells us, aluminum and barium compounds are being spread just as tens
of thousands of concerned citizens have observed, documented and bitterly
deplored."

Thanking the Honorable Griefahn her for her courage, Stetter suggested,
"Maybe one day statues of politicians like Monika Griefahn or the equally plucky US
Congressman Dennis Kucinich will adorn in marble splendor the squares of
newly verdant German or American cities."

"That would be nice," writes Thomas, "but the public outcry in Europe will
have to spread to North America if we are to stop this massive, illegal and
continuing air and atmospheric pollution."

We all know whatever Jay-Jay, the GOP apologist for the big oil and jet companies, says is always untruthful. One can just about read what Jay-Jay says and go for the opposite to get down to the truth.

EDB was one of the earliest chemtrails experiments. Burning EDB makes HBr, which has polar properties that cause nucleation of the water molecules and large persistent drops to form in the jet plume.

EDB is one of the chemtrail methods. And there are many of them.

I am in two minds about Gabriel Stetter's policies of confronting Greenpeace.

It may prove more effective merely to allow Greenpeace to stand as an example of the futility of lobbying the mass-media/party political system rather than organizing independently.

Probably a mix of both tactics is the best solution.

Do realistically present K-25 as a unmonitored retrievable storage site for billions of pounds of toxic, neutron producing, and dangerous UF-6. DO include unsafe things like putting workers on top of vaults that emit neutrons and have a history and two dead workers over it. There can be real problems of putting workers in contaminated areas. This is one example............

The problem these days are GOP cover up types attempting to fool people, be it on the atmospheric and GW problems, chemtrails methods to compensate, or the health problems associated with fluoride / HF releases.

Like cover-up Ziggy, the fake chemist, who confuses valence with ionization. Ziggy's chemistry tells that all the world is ionized.

Then when Ziggy and Jay-Jay fail to tell the story that in Oak Ridge there are huge fluoride problems. Much of it stems from either making UF-6 or releasing UF-6 to air.

Both processes release HF into the air.

UF-6 can't exist in air, because it forms HF and UO2F2. So speaking of the UF-6 releases is one in the same as talking about the HF emissions.

Crooked GOP Jay-Jay and high school sidekick Ziggy attempt to pull the wool over some folks eyes.

Obviously, neither GOP crook Jay-Jay nor Ziglet like to tell the truth on UF-6 being directly associated with HF releases. Though it is a real simple and direct chemical association known to even grade school kids, who can browse the internet.

Bottom Line = Jay-Jay tells lies.

Ziggy isn't a chemist, more like a juvenile kid.

Why is it that before others atsrted talking about "chemtrails", yo never mentioned the subject, never claimed to have been a "God" at DOE, never claimed to have been much of anything else besides an ordinary worker there.
Why not?
Why did your story suddenly change?

See, Jimbo, you can't go around blaming everybody else for "cover ups" while failing to address your own actions.

Congratulations Jim, after years you got it:
releasing UF-6 to air. So the primary problem was UF6 release and the secondary HF.

In your own words
...toxic, neutron producing, and dangerous UF-6. ...
Finally again a wrong conclusion:So speaking of the UF-6 releases is one in the same as talking about the HF emissions. NO NO NO
Because UF6/UO2F2 is radioactive thus causing problems for hundreds of years.

Now everyone gets a good look at the grade school level of chemistry that Ziggy has.

Everyone knows UO2F2 is water soluble and even if one takes it into the body, it comes out rapidly. Little is retained. So, internal radiation probems from UO2F2 were low around gas diffusion plants from UF-6. The UO2F2 dust is heavy and falls right to the ground.

The other compound is HF and this one is highly retained by the body and actually cumulative with age. HF will combine with water vapor in the air and stay in suspension, and easily breathed in.

So, here we have the fake chemist named Ziggy telling that radiation is the problem, and really showing that he has only great ignorance when it comes to pathways and metabolism effects that determine the next effect. When the UO2F2 was outside, the rains washed it into the ground or down the river. Some went into sumps for collection.

So, like Jay-Jay, every time Ziggy tosses out his broken English door to door chemistry non-expertise he gets caught telling more false tales.

The DOE's gas diffusion plants handled some 8 aircraft carrier equilavalent weights of UF-6 and lost good portions to decomposition. In the case of DU cylinders sometimes these would get holes in the 20 ton cylinders due to lifting lugs cutting holes in the tanks. Air leaks in and HF comes out. So, the main problem is the compound that leaks out and combines with air to establish the pathway. This is HF.

Likewise, the process itself leaked air inward. The HF that formed in the systems had to be removed via a purge system that dumped the HF into a bubbler trap system to reduce the emissions of HF. HF was still the main problem release from the process.

So, well established is that Broken English Ziggy is a dunce and needs to go sit in the corner for brain challenged flat-heads speaking broken chemistry logic.

Even when one gets into one of the most famous persons exposed to HF in DOE plants, the name Joe Harding comes up in web searches. Joe Harding did maintenance on the Paducah GDP systems and was put into the large piping to clean and remove broken parts. As part of this work, he would get HF into his hands, elbos, knees, and ankles. After a decaded of walking around and crawling in the HF wetted pipes he began to get fluoride retention in his ligaments. And these ligament's shieths would harden, break, and poke out of his skin around his joints looking like fingernails in strange places. Those are clear signs for extreme HF exposure, and well associated with extreme fluoride exposure effects.

Joe Harding died years after these effects and many tried to blame the radiation effects, but the real effect was fluoride damage the Pineal Gland at a rate higher than that for bone retention of fluoride. This damages the enymes that protect the cells from toxic metals and radiation damage. Joe Harding is one of the most famous of the publically reported health problems in workers in the gas diffusion business.

Like Ziggy here tries to tell radiation is a big issue, it wasn't the biggest, fluoride was for extreme problems of ligament hardening and later enzyme upsets leading to death for Joe Harding.

Bottom Line is Ziggy is a grade school kid who thinks he knows something, but can't keep up.

Ziggy can't do even simple and obvious uranium chemistry, pathways, and retention factors.

He also can't do even the simple chemtrials science associations.

One can't do much with persons this dumb, except say so and point it out.

The Gathering Winds
A Rise in Deadly Storms Since '95 Has Researchers Worried About the Future

By Peter Whoriskey
Washington Post Staff Writer
November 27, 2005

First, there was Opal (1995). Then Fran (1996), Floyd (1999) and Allison
(2001).

But the string of deadly billion-dollar storms blowing in from the Atlantic
was far from over.

In 2004, the quartet of Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne ravaged Florida in
rapid succession and set records for damage.

Then, somehow, it got worse.

With Katrina, the inundation of New Orleans and an Atlantic storm season so
active it stretched forecasters beyond the normal alphabetical list of names
into the Greek of Alpha, Beta and Gamma, 2005 racked up more storm deaths and
destruction than the previous 10 years -- combined .

So although the close of this year's hurricane season on Nov. 30 may allow
residents along the Southeast coast to heave a sigh of relief, it also points to
a growing worry: What is going on with the weather?

With the surge in hurricanes since 1995, droves of people moving to affected
coastal areas and the federal government spending billions in storm relief
annually, the question has rarely seemed so urgent.

"People talk about what is 'normal' for hurricanes, but there's a new
definition of 'normal' now," said Roger Pielke Jr., an environmental studies
professor at the University of Colorado. "This is out of people's range of experience.
But there will be far more activity and far more destruction."

Many storm researchers now agree that a decade or more of similarly rough
seasons -- similar to the heightened storm activity that began in 1995 -- lies
ahead.

But at the same time that the trio of Katrina, Rita and Wilma were battering
Southeastern coasts, a controversy was brewing over the reasons for the rise
in hurricane havoc. At issue: Is it merely a natural fluctuation or, more
ominously, a product of global warming?

Until recently, a rough consensus in the small world of tropical cyclone
specialists had held that there was no evidence of unnatural hurricane trends over
the 20th century. Hurricane activity over the Atlantic has fluctuated
naturally over decades going back as far as 1900, and it was unlikely that global
warming could be having a significant impact, many researchers said.

But a pair of scientific papers published this year detected an unexpected
spike in storm intensity over the past several decades, suggesting that global
warming might already be having an effect. The research set off a passionate
and sometimes personal debate in the small community of storm scientists.

"In the sense of the history of scientific ideas, we're either in the middle
of a paradigm shift or a false paradigm shift," said Hugh Willoughby, the
former director of hurricane research at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration. "The situation would be deliciously ambiguous if there were not
thousands of lives and billions of dollars on the table."

Besides adding weight to the argument that global warming could be having
catastrophic effects, the findings spell more trouble for U.S. coastal areas
vulnerable to fierce storms, where the population is rising fast. The risks are
being borne by all U.S. taxpayers. Already, the federal government has been
asked repeatedly for hurricane relief money.

"We have to decide as a society whether that's a problem," Pielke said.
"Obviously, the benefits of living near the coast outweigh the costs because people
are doing it. The question is: In the face of inevitable property damage and
loss of life, how well do we prepare?

"Either way," he noted, "we are going to see many more years of intense
hurricanes. Scientists on both sides agree on that."

The difference between the two scientific views is whether hurricane activity
will simply fluctuate over time, as it apparently has done in the past, or
whether global warming will inexorably ramp up the damage.

The opening skirmish in the debate began when Kerry Emanuel, a well-known
researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, changed his mind. In
July, he withdrew from a paper reflecting the consensus view that there was
little evidence of a significant connection in the historical record. In an e-mail,
he wrote to a co-author that "the problem for me is that I cannot sign on to
a paper which makes statements I no longer believe are true."

"I see a large global warming signal in hurricanes," he wrote.

The next month, he published a paper in Nature considering 50 years of storm
data and stating that indeed, hurricanes in the Atlantic and North Pacific
were becoming more powerful. By a special measure of hurricane power he had
defined for other research, they had roughly doubled in power over 30 years.
Significantly, the increase tracked with the rise in sea surface temperatures.

There was more to come. In September, a group of scientists led by Peter
Webster at Georgia Tech found that, worldwide, the number of the strongest
hurricanes -- categories 4 and 5 -- has nearly doubled over the past 35 years. The
authors aligned the finding with global warming and a rise in sea surface
temperatures.

"Our work is consistent with the concept that there is a relationship between
increasing sea surface temperature and hurricane intensity," Webster said at
the time.

But he also noted that the findings did not perfectly fit with global
warming. "It's difficult to explain," he said, why, when sea surface temperatures
were rising the most in the past decade, the number of hurricanes and their
longevity decreased.

Even with such cautions, however, reaction to the papers was immediate and
powerful.

Some environmental groups touted the studies as a reason to immediately
restrict carbon emissions in an effort to slow global warming. At the same time,
other researchers launched tirades against the findings.

William Gray of Colorado State University, well known for his annual
hurricane season forecasts, was at the forefront of the criticisms.

"If true, this is a very important finding that has great relevance as
regards the globe's future climate and future hurricane destruction," he wrote in
rebuttal to Emanuel's paper. "But the author's 'apparent' blockbuster results
and his interpretation of his calculations are not realistic."

There are at least two fundamental problems with the studies, according to
Gray and others.

The first is that Atlantic hurricane activity has long been known to undergo
fluctuations over long periods. The flip-flops between active and inactive
hurricane periods in the Atlantic are attributed to long-term trends in currents
and salinity.

The 1950s and 1960s saw lots of hurricane activity, for example, whereas the
'70s, '80s and early '90s did not. The uptick in hurricanes that began in 1995
had long been anticipated, though researchers hadn't been sure when exactly
the change would come.

Critics said the rise in Atlantic hurricanes that the papers detected was
probably the cause of this natural "oscillation," not global warming.

The second flaw in the papers, according to critics, is that both papers are
based on hurricane records over decades, and those vary in quality, largely
because the means of measuring hurricane intensity have changed over time.

In the northwest Pacific, for example, which sees a large share of
hurricane-force storms, records of storm intensity have at times been based on flight
observations and sometimes on satellite images.

"In a nutshell, the data sets they're using aren't reliable enough to answer
those important questions," said NOAA hurricane researcher Christopher W.
Landsea. "The data sets don't take into account the different ships, the different
planes, the different satellite imagery. The data is affected by the
different ways of measuring."

For all the skepticism from some quarters, the arguments have been persuasive
elsewhere. Willoughby said he has been leaning toward the global warming
explanation and that the two new papers helped.

Still, he said, it is too early to tell.

"Right now, I don't think there is a consensus answer," he said. "There are
just a lot of smart people doing good work on a very important question."

Snow brings chaos to Europe

Luke Harding Berlin
Monday November 28, 2005

Much of Europe was paralysed yesterday after heavy snow left tens of thousands of households without electricity and brought chaos to public transport.
The cold snap caused disruption across western Europe, with the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany worst affected. Several people died in car crashes caused by the freezing weather, and a homeless man, 43, was found in a church doorway in Brussels after freezing to death.

In Germany yesterday, engineers were working to restore electricity to more than 100,000 people in North Rhine-Westphalia who spent two nights without power in sub-zero temperatures. Emergency supplies were set up in Münster to heat old people's homes, hospitals, and emergency shelters, officials said.

In the Netherlands traffic was slowly returning to normal yesterday after the worst jam in Dutch history, with 500 miles of road gridlocked. Thousands of drivers slept in their cars while others took refuge in Red Cross shelters, railway stations and theatres. Travellers across western Europe faced severe delays as fallen trees and high winds disrupted bus and rail services. Flights were cancelled or diverted because of snow in Paris and Düsseldorf.
In Austria the authorities yesterday warned of a substantial risk of avalanches in several provinces, especially in south-western Carinthia, where 70cm (28in) of snow fell over the weekend.

One of the biggest mistakes people make in the Global Warming Equation is to think the Entire Planet will warm evenly, when the basic problems manifest themselves as heating of the Southern Oceans leading to changes in Ocean Currents and increased El Nino, hurricanes and typhoons.

Similarly, the ocean's Gulf Stream is being first affected and drives the European weather. Ad the polar ice melts the world's problems increase. New Orleans will eventually go under permanently as well as much of Florida. European Netherland will have the same problems, and other low lying counties like Ethiopia, which will develop and inland ocean.

Global warming 'a major threat'
28/11/2005

London - The impact of spiralling pollution on the planet poses a threat to civilisation just as catastrophic as much-vaunted weapons of mass destruction, Britain's top scientist warned on Monday.

Robert May, president of the country's leading scientific body, the Royal Society, issued the warning as a 12-day conference was set to get underway on Monday in Montreal to decide the fate of the Kyoto Protocol, the United Nations' troubled treaty for curbing greenhouse gases.

"The impacts of global warming are many and serious: sea-level rise ... changes in availability of fresh water ... and the increasing incidence of extreme events - floods, droughts, and hurricanes - the serious consequences of which are rising to levels which invite comparison with weapons of mass destruction," May said on Monday to coincide with the start of the UN framework convention on climate change on the same day.

Kyoto controversy

The Montreal meeting is the first by the convention since the UN's pollution-cutting Kyoto Protocol, signed by 156 countries, took effect on January 16.

But a notable non-signatory of the pact committing industrialised nations to reducing or offsetting emissions of carbon dioxide and five other greenhouse gases is the planet's heaviest polluter: the United States.

Observers are gloomy about the prospects of the Montreal round coming up with a post-2012 deal that satisfies the European Union, green groups, business and US President George W Bush, who argues Kyoto penalises the oil-dependent US economy.

But May said the convention attended by up to 10 000 delegates from 180 countries could help by agreeing to a pollution analysis calculating the potential costs of corrective action - and the fallout if nothing was done.

"The Montreal meeting could be constructive if there at least emerged agreement to initiate a study of target levels for atmospheric concentrations, as a basis for discussing appropriate plans of action," he said.

"We need countries to initiate a study into the consequences of stabilising greenhouse gas concentrations at, below, or above twice pre-industrial levels, so that the international community can assess the potential costs of their actions or lack of them.

Consequences of global warming

The scientist pointed to Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the US jazz capital of New Orleans in August, as an example of what could happen more often if politicians failed to tackle global warming.

Studies undertaken before the storm suggested rising sea temperatures would mean more severe hurricanes, May said.

"The estimated damage inflicted by Katrina is equivalent to 1.7% of US GDP this year, and it is conceivable that the Gulf Coast of the US could be effectively uninhabitable by the end of the century," he said.

May is set to deliver his last address of his five-year term as the head of the Royal Society on Wednesday.

Alarm over dramatic weakening of Gulf Stream

· Slowing of current by a third in 12 years could bring more extreme weather
· Temperatures in Britain likely to drop by one degree in next decade

Ian Sample, science correspondent
December 1, 2005
The Guardian

The powerful ocean current that bathes Britain and northern Europe in warm waters from the tropics has weakened dramatically in recent years, a consequence of global warming that could trigger more severe winters and cooler summers across the region, scientists warn today.

Researchers on a scientific expedition in the Atlantic Ocean measured the strength of the current between Africa and the east coast of America and found that the circulation has slowed by 30% since a previous expedition 12 years ago.

The current, which drives the Gulf Stream, delivers the equivalent of 1m power stations-worth of energy to northern Europe, propping up temperatures by 10C in some regions. The researchers found that the circulation has weakened by 6m tonnes of water a second. Previous expeditions to check the current flow in 1957, 1981 and 1992 found only minor changes in its strength, although a slowing was picked up in a further expedition in 1998. The decline prompted the scientists to set up a £4.8m network of moored instruments in the Atlantic to monitor changes in the current continuously.

The network should also answer the pressing question of whether the significant weakening of the current is a short-term variation, or part of a more devastating long-term slowing of the flow.

If the current remains as weak as it is, temperatures in Britain are likely to drop by an average of 1C in the next decade, according to Harry Bryden at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton who led the study. "Models show that if it shuts down completely, 20 years later, the temperature is 4C to 6C degrees cooler over the UK and north-western Europe," Dr Bryden said.

Although climate records suggest that the current has ground to a halt in the distant past, the prospect of it shutting down entirely within the century are extremely low, according to climate modellers.

The current is essentially a huge oceanic conveyor belt that transports heat from equatorial regions towards the Arctic circle. Warm surface water coming up from the tropics gives off heat as it moves north until eventually, it cools so much in northern waters that it sinks and circulates back to the south. There it warms again, rises and heads back north. The constant sinking in the north and rising in the south drives the conveyor.

Global warming weakens the circulation because increased meltwater from Greenland and the Arctic icesheets along with greater river run-off from Russia pour into the northern Atlantic and make it less saline which in turn makes it harder for the cooler water to sink, in effect slowing down the engine that drives the current.

The researchers measured the strength of the current at a latitude of 25 degrees N and found that the volume of cold, deep water returning south had dropped by 30%. At the same time, they measured a 30% increase in the amount of surface water peeling off early from the main northward current, suggesting far less was continuing up to Britain and the rest of Europe. The report appears in the journal Nature today.

Disruption of the conveyor-belt current was the basis of the film The Day After Tomorrow, which depicted a world thrown into chaos by a sudden and dramatic drop in temperatures. That scenario was dismissed by researchers as fantasy, because climate models suggest that the current is unlikely to slow so suddenly.

Marec Srokosz of the National Oceanographic Centre said: "The most realistic part of the film is where the climatologists are talking to the politicians and the politicians are saying 'we can't do anything about it'."

Chris West, director of the UK climate impacts programme at Oxford University's centre for the environment, said: "The only way computer models have managed to simulate an entire shutdown of the current is to magic into existence millions of tonnes of fresh water and dump it in the Atlantic. It's not clear where that water could ever come from, even taking into account increased Greenland melting."

Uncertainties in climate change models mean that the overall impact on Britain of a slowing down in the current are hard to pin down. "We know that if the current slows down, it will lead to a drop in temperatures in Britain and northern Europe of a few degrees, but the effect isn't even over the seasons. Most of the cooling would be in the winter, so the biggest impact would be much colder winters," said Tim Osborn, of the University of East Anglia climatic research unit.

The final impact of any cooling effect will depend on whether it outweighs the global warming that, paradoxically, is driving it. According to climate modellers, the drop in temperature caused by a slowing of the Atlantic current will, in the long term, be swamped by a more general warming of the atmosphere.

"If this was happening in the absence of generally increasing temperatures, I would be concerned," said Dr Smith. Any cooling driven by a weakening of the Atlantic current would probably only slow warming rather than cancel it out all together. Even if a slowdown in the current put the brakes on warming over Britain and parts of Europe, the impact would be felt more extremely elsewhere, he said.

Climate march, but will it work?

Going on the climate change protest this Saturday is like marching for niceness - and just as ineffectual

This is probably not the safest place to challenge George Monbiot's startlingly ambitious claim this week to have written the densest column ever published in the Guardian (how much of it does he read?). Dense or not, his calculations were dour enough to prompt me, and no doubt many others, to consider joining him on the international day of climate protest on Saturday. George Monbiot, the honorary president of the Campaign Against Climate Change, will speak at the London rally, whose aim is to "help create a global wave of protest to press for the urgent action we need to prevent the catastrophic destabilisation of global climate".

And who - with one or two obvious exceptions - would argue with that? At our first encounter, I find this the most appealing thing about the climate change march. It is like marching for niceness. Unlike the big countryside demonstration, where some ramblers were dismayed to find that they had just marched for hunting ramblers with dogs, or demonstrations against the war in Iraq, where the single-issue anti-Iraq interventionist cannot be sure her presence will not be used as a mark of support for, say, the annihilation of Israel or creation of a caliphate, the international day of climate protest promises to be safe. Within reason. There is probably an above average risk of b
