Ms. Huffington - I'm listening to you right now on the Al Franken Show and I wanted to make you aware that my wife, Amelia Dellos, and I are shooting a film right now that is attempting to accomplish what you're purporting to want to accomplish with your blog --- bring people together to create change. The film is called "Red, White & Blue; A Tale of Two Americas " and consists of interviews of American citizens from all economic strata and political persuasions, speaking about their beliefs and how they arrived at them, with the purpose of seeking a common ground where change can in fact be enacted.
My wife and I have enlisted several prominent musicians (Natalie Merchant, Ben Fold, Cowboy Junkies, etc.) and the help of a skilled Director of Photography, Pete Biagi, and have begun filming using our own money. We've filmed three interviews so far and have several more on the horizon, but one extremely disheartening thing that we've encountered repeatedly is this --- when looking for funding for the film (we have a modest budget of $150,000 --- modest in film terms), everyone speaks about how "necessary" a film like this is, how "wonderful" the idea is...and then promptly refuse to put their money where their mouths are. Honestly, if we could just get a groundswell of people kicking in small amounts of money, we could continue shooting and get this thing finished and screened across the country, where it will do the most good.
I'm tired of the demonization of those with opposing viewpoints. I'm tired of the pundits and politicians who repeat the tired saga of "red vs. blue" states. But most of all I'm tired of being someone who's trying to do something about it and receiving little to no support from those who claim to be the biggest supporters of democracy. If you believe in our project, believe that it can help America (as we do), and believe in finding solutions to the issues troubling the country, please find a way to help us get this film made.
I appreciate your time.
Sincerely,
Eric Anderson
