Re the discussion of the power of so many small donations from the Democrats and the implied reasons therefore: It is my view that the overwhelming impetus for this unusual support was less for the Democrats than the chilling fear that we would be subjected to another four years of the same. Now that we have to face this fear, it is certainly time to examine where the policy failed us. That we echoed the Republicans is certainly one view. That is especially true with regard to the war in Iraq. Where were our Democratic leaders when the President was given the authority for that war, with not a whimper of disagreement? One can only suppose that those who would have dissented were concerned for their own security. So, we have descended to the level of self-interest and more statesmen are needed--and certainly on both sides. RAC
