Wow, Boo, Vancouver is the prettiest city in North America. I think of it as a jewel. And that's saying something to beat out San Francisco. In fact, I can't think of a prettier city on the planet, that I've visited anyway.

If you look really hard across the Lions Gate up on the hill on the north side of the inlet you'll find a little place with a view of English Bay and Stanley Park and which serves the most delicious alderwood barbecued salmon anywhere.

I used to get there as often as I could when I was doing a lot of sailing out of Bainbridge Island across from Seattle. We even did the Victoria-Maui International with your yacht club one summer.

Say, it's been a couple of years - too long. I've talked myself into going back. CU.

Yo Boo2. Thanks for the picture of Vancouver! I go up there every year at Thanksgiving and stay on Robson street. Everything is walking distance and the food is GREAT! My favorite place is Ezo-Giku, the small noodle shop, and that UIndian restaurant on Robson.

I agree that Vancouver is indeed a beautiful city. We had long-time sailing "buds" in West Van and spent quite a bit of time there with them.

Our favorite city, though, is Victoria. Each year, in middle to late June, we sailed into Victoria, tied up in front of the Empress, and spent a few days squatting on our own coffee-grounds while prowling the city (and bakeries...yum)

Never did the Victoria-Maui, but did the Swiftsure out of Victoria several times.

About ten years ago, I was walking from the parking lot to the front door of a gay bar in my small hometown, when a truck with three guys passed by and slowed to a stop.

The three, all apperaing to be in their late teens or early twenties, could barely contain themselves as the driver asked, with a look of revulsion mixed with intense curiosity, if I was gay.

I said, "Yeah. So what? What do you want?"

The guy in the middle, squeezed awfully tight between his two buddies, asked, "Are you shittin' me? You're really GAY?"

At this point, my adrenaline started pumping and I knew I might be in trouble, considering that I was out there all by myself.

All of a sudden the third guy leaned out of the passenger side window and hurled a glass bottle at me from over the top of the truck cab.

He fucking aimed to hurt or kill me and being that the bottle was one of those older, bigger ones, he damn well could have. But my reflexes were much faster and I easily dodged their deadly little missile. And being that I was in my own early twenties and having been out of the closet for nearly ten years, I knew that if these fucking cocksuckers weren't taught a lesson the first time, that they would think they could get away with this murderous, criminal behavior again and again and eventually succeed in hurting or killing someone they suspected of being gay.

As the bottle landed in the dirt of the parking lot---it was a gay bar in the poor inner city of my small hometown, where they usually are, and, thus, had no proper asphalt---I snatched it up and hurled the fucker at the back window, just as the cowardly little closet case faggots, hit the gas pedal and sped off.

That bottle took out the entire back window of their truck, shattering glass all over them. I could hear shouts of anger and pain as they took off down the one way street.

Suspecting they might try to circle back, I ran to the huge, muscular bouncer just inside the door and told him to call the police, as I had just been attacked by three gay bashers.

Within seconds the twenty people in line inside the bar, the owner of the bar and two other bouncers came flooding out into the parking lot to see what was going on.

I saw the truck on the opposite side of the property, going down the other one way street, just as I suspected they would, but upon seeing the crowd, the truck sped off into the night.

I wonder what the driver told his dad when they got home and he saw the back window all broke out?
